Martha S. Yesalavich

Martha Ann (Sutton) Yesalavich, 84, widow of John Anthony Yesalavich, of Lee Highway, Vernona, Virginia, died Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at her residence.

She was born on October 30, 1925, in Verona, a daughter of the late Everett and Louella (Critzer) Sutton.

She attended Verona United Methodist Church, where she was very active in church activities. She volunteered with the American Cancer Society for over 30 years and was a caregiver for numerous neighbors.

In addition to her husband of 61 years, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Yesalavich; a sister, Janet Foley; and two grandsons, Corporal Dwayne Yesalavich United States Marine Corp, and David Yesalavich.

Family members include two sons and daughters-in-law, John M. and Peggy Yesalavich of Churchville and Joseph A. and Jackie Yesalavich of Republican Grove; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet Yesalavich and David H. Zimmerman of Albemarle County; a twin sister, Mary Simmons of Verona; five granddaughters, Debra Stogdale, Karen Leach, Christina Hudson, Angela Yesalavich, and Maggie Zimmerman; seven great- grandchildren; and a special friend, Amelia Link.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, November 30, 2009, at Verona United Methodist Church by the Reverend Matthew D. Bates Jr. Burial will follow at Shenandoah Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Charlie Stogdale, Jeremy Leach, Danny Link, Rocky Simmons, Michael McCray, and George Weller.

The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2009, at Henry Funeral Home and other times at her home.

Memorials may be made to Augusta Health Hospice of Shenandoah, P.O. Box 215, Fishersville, VA 22939 or to the American Cancer Society, Staunton/ Waynesboro/Augusta Unit, 1920-H Medical Avenue, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
