Mildred Taylor Obituary

Published by Daily Progress from Nov. 24 to Nov. 25, 2009.
Mildred Taylor

Mildred Taylor, beloved wife of Irving Taylor for 69 years, and devoted and loving mother of Harvey Taylor and his wife, Gerri, and of Ronald Taylor and his wife, Peg Lindorfer, died peacefully in her sleep on the morning of Friday, November 20, 2009, six weeks after celebrating her 90th birthday.

She was blessed with five grandchildren, Stacy, and her husband, Robert Waugh, and Steven, Matthew, Peter and Allison Taylor, and was able to hold and love her first great-grandchild, Isabelle. She also leaves her brother-in- law, Alvin Taylor and his wife, Judit; Claudia and David Cohen and their daughters, Alyssa and Lindsay; Richard and Susan Allen and their sons, Josh and Seth; Marcia Taylor and her husband, Jeremy Rosenblum, and their daughters, Alison, Lauren and Amy; Michael Taylor and his wife, Andrea and their children, Dana, Heather and Aaron; Naomi Taylor and her husband, Marc Sitbon, and their children, Raphael, Daniel, and Noe; Sally Taylor; Suzanne Taylor and her son, Kyle; Dina Brewer and her husband, Paul, and their daughters Jesse, Eve and Sarah; Jonathan Taylor and his wife, Mary Mazzanti, and their newborn daughter, Lea Mildred Taylor.

Mildred Taylor was born in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late Julius and Lena Afsanic. She worked as a college financial administrator in Bayside New York, until she and her husband Irving retired in 1983. When they were not working they were fortunate to have the opportunity to travel, watching the Olympics in Mexico City and Montreal, as well as making trips to Europe, Peru, China, and India. They retired a second time to Charlottesville in 1996, and joined the Atlantic Coast Athletic Club soon afterwards, where they had the opportunity to make numerous new and dear friendships and to demonstrate, often six days a week, that exercise does indeed allow one to stay young in mind and body, regardless of age. Mildred Taylor was an outstanding cook and baker, a serious and dedicated fisherman, tennis player and scrabble fanatic, and most of all, loved by everyone who knew her. She will be sorely missed.

The Taylor family wishes to thank Dr. Ajeet Vinayak, Dr. Christopher Rembold, and especially Dr. August Sanusi for the outstanding medical care they provided to Mildred Taylor. We also are grateful to Legacy Hospice, Care Advantage and to Ramona Wilbur and Brittney Allen for their care and comfort of Mildred Taylor.

Hill and Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Services will be private.
