Murrell "Red" Stevens Jackson

Murrell "Red" Stevens Jackson, 90, of Gordonsville, died Saturday, July 17, 2010, at The Village at Gordon House.

Born on March 4, 1920, in Burnsville, he was the son of the late James A. and Lottie Eagle Jackson. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Ferron Jackson; and a son, Horace "Jack" Ferron Jackson.

Red proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was the force behind H.T. Ferron Company for over 50 years. His professionalism and kindness to all of those with whom he interacted, was the staple and hallmark of his character.

He is survived by his wife, Merle Lawson; his daughter, Marie "Cookie" deButts; eight grandchildren; ten great- grandchildren; a sister; and a brother.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Saturday afternoon, July 31, 2010, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home, with a 6 p.m. memorial service to follow at the Hill and Wood Chapel with the Reverend Deborah Koontz officiating.

The family expresses a heartfelt thank you to the staff at The Village at Gordon House, for all their care and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite #300, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
