Ricarte Dadez

Ricarte Dadez, 75, of Charlottesville, died on Sunday, December 27, 2009, at a local hospital.

He was born on January 11, 1934, in Maui, Hawaii, the son of the late Eduardo Dadez and Maria Sugitan Dadez. He was also preceded in death by a son, Stephen Michael Dadez; a grandson, Jake; and a sister, Magdalena Collard.

Ricarte was retired from the United States Coast Guard having served during the Korean War and Vietnam. He was a graduate of the Fannie Farmer School of Culinary Arts and had served as the Special Chef for Officers in the Coast Guard. He later served as a Food Production Manager for the Blue Ridge Hospital in Charlottesville. He was also a member of the Elks and the Knights of Columbus.

Surviving him are the mother of his children, Dorothy Dadez of Oakridge, Tennessee; two daughters, Regina Howard and her husband, Richard, of Richmond and Katherine Todd and her husband, Richard, of Oakridge, Tennessee; four sons, Edward Dadez and his wife, Terry, of Saint Leo, Florida, Richard Dadez and his wife, Christie, of Peach Tree City, Georgia, Thomas Dadez and his wife, Lisa, of Yorktown, Virginia, and James Dadez and his wife, Tanya, of Zephyrhills, Florida; 12 grandchildren, Cameron, Michael, Blake, Robert, Robert, Jordan, Thomas, Austin, Aaron, Allison, Madison, and Bayden; two great-grandchildren, Troy and Bryce; two sisters, Yasminia of the Philipines and Violetta Agapay of Kahului, HI; three brothers, Angel Dadez of Lahaina, Hawaii, Marcello Dadez and his wife, Beatrice, of Wailuku, Hawaii, and Jaime Dadez and his wife, Edith, of Freeport, Illinois; and his loving companion of many years, Anita Patrick and two children, Delilah Wills and Zane Patrick of Charlottesville.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 4, 2010, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home with the Reverend Sidney Craig officiating. Interment will follow at the Culpeper National Cemetery with full military honors at 1 p.m.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 5 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2010, at the funeral home.

The family suggests that any desired memorial contributions be made to the Martha Jefferson Hospital Nursing Fund, South 7, 459 Locust Avenue, Charlottesville, VA 22902.

Anita, Dee & Dustin,
We will miss Rick so much...his smile, his laughter, his wonderful cooking as well as knowing he was always there for you. Charlene and Samantha will always cherish their memories of Uncle Rick. He always made our children as well as yours feel like a part of his family. Samantha still has the lei he brought her back from Hawaii for her high school graduation.
