"Bob" Hamm Robert L. "Bob" Hamm, 74, of Charlottesville, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, October 12, 2010.

He was born on June 3, 1936, in Fluvanna, the son of the late Willie Joseph and Effie Melton Hamm. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ila Thacker and her husband, Burley Thacker Sr.; and five brothers, Stanley Hamm, Linwood Hamm, James Hamm, Willie Hamm Jr. and Russell Hamm.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Nancy Mason Hamm; two daughters, Susan Dalton and her husband, Jeff Dalton, Linda McGhee and her husband, Brent McGhee; four grandchildren, Andrew Dalton, Ryan McGhee, Hunter McGhee and Grace Dalton; two brothers, George Hamm of Madison and William Hamm and his wife, Janice, of Kents Store; two sisters, Phyllis Bickley and Kenny Tillman of Palmyra and Sarah Cox and her husband, Fulton, of Palmyra; and a very special nephew, who is like a brother, Burley "Bucky" Thacker Jr. He has a number of loving nephews and nieces.

Robert retired from Avionics Specialties as Contracts Manager after over 40 years of service. He also worked for his son-in-law, Jeff Dalton for a number of years, which he enjoyed very much.

He served in the United States Army and Reserves for six years. He was a specialist in First Cavalry Division, Special Co., in Korea.

He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Park Street where he served as a Deacon, sang in the Chancel Choir, and was a member and Treasurer of the Apostles Class. He was recently honored with Deacon Emeritus.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, October 18, 2010, at First Baptist Church, Park Street with Pastors Lindsay Sadler and Dave Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens with the Reverend Donald Apperson officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, October 17, 2010, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home.

The family expresses their sincere appreciation to Dr. Christopher Zazakos, the HOPE Center Staff, the First Baptist Church family as well as many friends for their prayers, encouragement, and support during Bob's illness
