Robert Tanner Obituary
Robert Michael Tanner, 74, of Madison, died on Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at the Martha Jefferson Hospital.
He was born on November 23, 1935, in Madison, the son of the late Charlie Russell Tanner and Ruby Estes Tanner. He was also preceded in death by a son, Timothy Glenn Gaines Tanner; and a sister, Virginia Catherine Tanner.
Bobby was owner and operator of Farmer Service Center in Madison. He was a member and elder of the Fairview Christian Church and former Sunday School Superintendent, life member of the Madison Volunteer Fire Company, NRA, Madison Young Farmers, Wolftown Ruritan, a former member of Madison Jaycees and former Hunters Education and Gun Safety instructor.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan Rosson Tanner of Madison; a daughter, Tracy Tanner Bond and her husband, William R. Bond III of Stanardsville; sons, Thomas Michael Tanner Sr. and Todd Thornhill Tanner and his wife, Geneva "Pete", all of Madison; a brother, J. Russell Tanner and his wife, Nancy of Madison; six grandchildren, Christy Rene "C.R." Tanner, Dana Michelle Weaver, Thomas Michael Tanner Jr. and companion, Michelle Longley, Christopher Robert Tanner Beard, Karen E. McDaniel, and Kendall M. McDaniel; and a step-granddaughter, Catina Hurlock Irving; four great-grandchildren; many lifelong friends and special friends, Cindy J. Green and Dr. Fletcher Askew, Nancy Breeden and Steve Grayson.
A memorial service will be held 8 p.m. Friday, October 8, 2010, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison with family visitation before the service from 5:30 until 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairview Christian Church Building Fund or Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 19, Hood, VA 22723.
