Walter Eugene Morton Sr.



Walter Eugene Morton Sr. departed from life on Friday, October 16, 2009, at Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

He was born to the late Henry E. Coursey and Lucy Redd Morton of Charlottesville, Virginia.

He attended Charlottesville public schools. After graduation, he served in the United States Army for 11 years with three tours to Vietnam. Later he was a civil service worker for 28 years at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Jennifer Y. Morton; sons, Tirel Eugene Morton of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Walter Morton Jr. of Lorton, Virginia, Rodrico Turner of Charlottesville; daughter, Tonya Breidenbach of Stafford, Virginia.

With a kind heart he adopted as youths, Leslie Jones, Jimmy Williams, Billie Canas, Tammy McNeil, Shirley Johnson and William Edward Poe.

In Charlottesville, he leaves brothers, William G. Redd, Roger A Morton and George M. Morton; sisters, Doris A. Morton and Edwin Morton and Steve Lee Morton of Oveido, Florida. Walter also leaves 21 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren as well a a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Interment was held at Sandhills State Veteran Cemetery with military honors at Fort Bragg on Thursday, October 22, 2009.
