Walter M. Hughes

Walter Montie Hughes, 77, of Broadway, Virginia, died on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at his home.

Mr. Hughes was born on April 28, 1932, in Charlottesville, the son of the late Walter "Happy" Hughes and Ruby McCauley Hughes.

He was brought into the world by the wonderful late Dr. Montie Rea and named Montie in honor of him.

His late grandparents were Mr. and Mrs. John Hughes and Mr. and Mrs Archer McCauley Sr. He was also preceded in death by his son, Howard Michael Hughes; and daughter, Cristy Lynn Hughes.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; two sons, W. Montie II and John Scott Hughes; one daughter, Kimberly Dawn Hughes; five grandchildren; a sister, Peggy H. Deputy; a nephew, Michael; a niece, Dana; aunts, Lucy McCauley Stiteler and Barbara McCauley Sandridge; and a special cousin, Teresa Pace.

Mr. Hughes request was cremation, there was no formal visitation.

McMullens Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Rockingham Memorial Hospice Program, 235 Cantrell Avenue, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
