Howard Wenk Obituary

HOWARD A. WENK AGE: 98 TINTON FALLS Howard A. Wenk, 98, of Tinton Falls, at the conclusion of a rich, active life, passed away July 4th after a brief illness. Born in Brooklyn he grew up in New York City and Pleasantville, NY. He and his wife Martha lived in Mountain Lakes, NJ for 61 years before moving to Tinton Falls in 2007. Howard, an electrical engineer, graduated from NYU and worked for Bell Telephone Laboratories for 49 years. He participated in radar development during World War II, in the Distant Early Warning and White Alice Projects after the war, and in military communications during the Vietnam War. In Mountain Lakes he was an active member of the Community Church, spent many years working with the Boy Scouts and served on the town Board of Education. As a Bell Labs Pioneer during his retirement, he engaged in volunteer service projects, particularly with a pre-school hearing test program. For years he worked for Meals on Wheels, and with his wife helped elementary children read and worked with a weekly tutoring program at his church. With Martha, Howard traveled the world with notable hiking trips in Switzerland, Italy and Peru. The couple enjoyed folk dancing well into there 90's, frequently participating in folk-dance demonstrations for the "old folks." The White Mountains of New Hampshire was the couple's August home and they introduced their children and grandchildren to the joys of hiking, including a family hike up Mt. Jefferson on his 90thbirthday. Howard is survived by his wife of 68 years, Martha; his son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Patti Wenk; his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Jules Bellisio; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Franklin Wenk, and five granddaughters. My Best to the family

July 8, 2009

Dear Cousins Martha, Arthur, Carol, David and families,

We were deeply saddened to hear of Howard's passing - what an amazingly wonderful life he had thanks to his own talents and interests and yours to complement and inspire his. I will always remember him as my best dancing partner at my wedding in 1969. I am so happy my sisters, Barbara Miller (Sarasota, FL) and Betsy Briden (Morristown, NJ), and I were able to visit you a few years ago in Mountain Lakes before your move to Tinton Falls (and introduce us to some great velcro sneakers) and view some recent pictures of Arthur, Carol and David and their families. It was an honor to know Howard.

Love and blessings,
