To all the O'Neill's: We are all so sorry for Pete's loss. So many memories - Pete's was the gathering place for all of Green Pond. A place where you could always count on a warm greeting and a smiling Pete, especially during the Green Pond winters, and who could forget Margo's lemon meringue pies! The best! Pete will be missed by many, many Green Ponders - we were lucky to have known him and called him "friend"

My condolences to the O'Neill Family. Pete and his Green Pond Inn was the glue that made Green Pond such a special place to live in the 1970's & 80's. One of my fondest memories is of "Black Burl" singing 'Silver and Gold' at Christmas time in the 1970's.
I am truly sorry for your loss.

My condolences to the entire O'Neill Family. Pete and his Green Pond Inn were the glue that made Green Pond such a special place to live in the 1970's and 1980's. One of my fondest memories of Pete was his "Black Burl" imitation when he would sing "Silver & Gold" at Christmas time.
I am truly sorry for your loss.

To all of the O'Neill Family; God Bless You all on your journey through the grief with the loss of your dad. I have so many great memories of watching you kids grow up under the watchful eyes of your parents and the staff and the patrons of Petes'. Those of us who had the privelege of working there witnessed the love and care your parents gave while working unending hours at the restaurant! Watching Mom make her famous pies while pregnant with Katie and supervising homework of the older ones and Dad seemed to always be @ work, how lucky you were to have them there when you came home from school everyday. Dad provided the "gathering place" like the old pubs in Ireland for Green Ponders and many on the mountain to go and meet their neighbors for the latest news. There was always laughter and light served up with the homemade menu. It was' the place to go' if you didn't go down the mtn.! Many tried but Petes' was never duplicated after Mom and Dad stopped running the restaurant! Mostly because it was such a family place both in front and in back. I have many fond memories of both going there as a patron and starting my work career while in college. Mom was a dear friend to my mother and I can still see your Grandmother at daily mass, such a faithful member who taught her children well, as exhibited by Dad's participation in St. Simon's. I will keep you all in my prayers during this difficult time as I know how it feels. Remember the ethics your parents role modeled for you and know that your pain and loss matter to many beyond just those that you will see. God Bless. Prov.3:5-6 Fondly, Rosemary O'Connor

I have so many great memories of 'Pete's'. It was the Cheers of Green Pond - where everyone, especially Pete, knew your name. Pete provided our Green Pond family with a comfortable, familiar place to eat great food and enjoy some hot totties while enjoying the company of our 'family' (especially in the frigid, snow-bound times of winter. Thanks for the memories, Pete.
My thoughts and prayers are with the O'Neill family.
Sincerely,
Meaghan Barger

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself … any man’s death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
