Bill Strand of the Millington section of Long Hill Township, NJ passed away peacefully on July 30, 2015, at the age of 84. Bill was born in Seattle and raised in Seaview, Washington. He was a graduate of Yale University, Class of 1953, where he rowed lightweight crew. He received his master's degree in civil engineering from Stanford University in 1957. He was also an officer in the U.S. Navy (lieutenant j.g.) and was stationed at the naval base in San Diego.

Bill spent his entire working career with Stone & Webster, Inc. in New York City and retired as a Senior Vice President in the Management Consulting Division. He was a worldwide traveler and voracious reader. He was an active member and President of the Boards of Education for Watchung Hills Regional High School and the Long Hill Township Public Schools for more than three decades.

Mr. Strand is survived by his son, John of Washington, D.C. and his wife Lisa and children Pearl and Lucy; son, Jim of Berea, KY and his wife Alina and children Peter and Kevin; and son, David of Chatham NJ and his wife Anna Marie and children Michael and Gianna. Another son, Peter, died in 1987. Bill's wife of 48 years, Connie, died in 2002.

Arrangements are by Gallaway and Crane funeral home in Basking Ridge. Memorial Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in Mr. Strand's name to the Yale Athletic Association/Men's Lightweight Crew, P.O. Box 1844, New Haven CT 06508-1844 or a local charity of choice.
