James Poskey

Mr. James Poskey, 91, of Nacogdoches passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 7, 2013. He was born in Nacogdoches County on November 28, 1921, to parents Louis Poskey and Caroline Cortines Poskey. James is preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers and sisters, Jessie Poskey, George Poskey, Simon Poskey, Lee Poskey, Maggie Cooper, Finnie Commander, Lilly Manchaca and Annie Poskey. Mr. Poskey is survived by his wife, Audrey Faye Poskey; seven children, Carolyn Lujan and husband Bill of Nacogdoches, Theresa Carson and husband Raymond of Lufkin, Gayland Poskey and wife Paula of Nacogdoches, Kenneth Poskey and wife Sandra of Nacogdoches, Ronnie Poskey and wife Robin of Nacogdoches, Cyndi Luna and husband Kevin of Smithville, Mary Luna and husband Darrel of Nacogdoches; numerous nieces and nephews. James Poskey was a wonderful, dear man who loved his family and watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was very proud of them all. He served our country during World War II in the United States Army in the South Pacific from 1942-1945. He was shipped to Alaska and then to Siska in the Aleutian Islands. From there he was sent to Hawaii, Marshall Island, Leyte in the Philippines and Okinawa. He is a recipient of the Purple Heart for his injury in battle. He was faithfully devoted to his wife Audrey for 66 years. He worked in construction building Hotel Fredonia, Lone Star Farm and retired from Sunterrace Manufacturing. In his spare time he loved gardening, helping in the care of cattle, camping, fishing and was an avid hunter. He loved his Church and church family. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A mass of Christian burial will be conducted at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by Father Joseph Lourdusamy on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Moral Cemetery. Military Rites will be offered by United States Army. In honor of James Poskey's simple ways all who are attending the service are welcome to wear blue jeans and a white shirt. That's what he would have liked. Active pallbearers will be Edward Fincher, Mark Tatum, Justin Poskey, Christopher Poskey, Danny Luna and Cody Poskey. Honorary Pallbearers will be Michael Fincher and Matt Tatum. All have been asked to wear jeans and white shirts.
