Catherine Mathis Obituary

Catherine "Cathy" Mathis

Catherine "Cathy" Mathis, age 46, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, August 8, 2015. She was a mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend. Cathy was born April 22, 1969 in San Jose, California. She graduated in 1988 from West Point High School. She had a deep love for traveling and experiencing other cultures. She was an amazing artist and graphic designer. She had a gift for creating Electronic Dance Music and a passion for dancing. Cathy's contagious smile and external beauty was equally matched by the unconditional love flowing from within her heart for all around her, making a relationship of any kind with her truly joyful and rewarding. She never met a stranger.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Rodney Mathis; grandparents: Joe Lee Mathis Sr., Donaciano "Chano" Porras, Aletha "Maxcine" Porras, and Charsie Walker.
She is survived by her daughter, Alex Stromvig; her parents: Steve and Mary Mathis; her oldest sibling, Tonya "Sissy" Mathis; her younger siblings: Stevie "Shnevie" Mathis and Dawn "Dawnne" Ingram (Joey); grandparents, Lowell Walker (Janelle); a host of nieces and nephews including a three legged animal nephew she adored along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A private memorial will be held with family and close friends. Due to the nature of her tragic passing, the family thought it would be most appropriate if donations were made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. If you are ever feeling sad or depressed, please know there is another way out of this labyrinth of suffering. Cathy would never want another person to suffer. Please get help, if not for you, your loved ones.
