Elliott Jr., Arthur Beverly Arthur Beverly Elliott, Jr., 79, of Bluffton, SC died Friday, October 5, 2012 in Hilton Head Regional Hospital. Born on August 31, 1933 in Charleston, WV, he was the son of the late Arthur Beverly Elliott and Claire deRussy Elliott. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Elizabeth Bradbury Elliott. He lived with his family in Brooklyn, New York during the Second World War and attended Poly Prep Country Day School. In 1946 they moved to Texas and he graduated from high school in Victoria, Texas. Art attended The Rice Institute and graduated from The University of Texas with degrees in Geology and Physics and a Masters Degree in Geology in 1958. In 1958 he married Ann Rutledge Bradbury of Cameron, TX whom he met during graduate school. Art had an interesting, thirtyfive year career in oil exploration as a geologist first with Standard Vacuum Oil Company, and later, with Mobil Oil International. He lived oversees fifteen years in the Philippines, Turkey, Nigeria, Paris, France and London, England. During his twenty years with Mobil in Dallas, TX he was part of a group of regional geologists responsible for finding oil and gas exploration opportunities in various countries around the world including Russia, North Africa and the Caribbean. Time was also spent aboard the Mobil Research ship. The opportunities to travel and work in many areas of the world led to his wide range of interest in world events and history. He was an emeritus member of The American Association of Petroleum Geolo-gists. After retiring in 1992, he and his wife, Ann, moved to Moss Creek Plantation, Bluffton, and SC. where he became involved in genealogical research and writing. Art was descended from Thomas Elliott who arrived in Charleston, SC in the 1680's and from James Habersham who came to Savannah, GA in 1738. He was a past president of the Dr. George Mosse Chapter of the SC Sons of the American Revolution, and a member of The Society of First Families of South Carolina, The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, the Georgia Historical Society and Bluffton Historical Preservation Society. Art was also a Paul Harris fellow of TheVan Landingham Rotary Club of Hilton Head Is., SC and former member of the Oglethorpe Club, Savannah, GA.In addition to his wife of fifty four years, he is survived by a nephew, Kevin D. Kercheville and family of Austin, TX, six deRussy first cousins: Kathleen, Rene', John Langdon, David, John Huie and Thomas and their families and many special Elliott and Huger cousins. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 11th at 11 am. at The Church of the Cross, Calhoun Street, Bluffton, S.C. Interment will be at Laurel Grove Cemetery North, Savannah, GA.
