Pierce, Tommie Kennedy Tommie Kennedy Pierce was born in Dallas on December 5, 1919, to T K and Kathleen Varga Pierce and died on Sunday January 22, 2012, at his home at Presbyterian Village North. Tommie grew up along McKinney Avenue delivering groceries in the Park Cities and what is now Uptown for his father's grocery store. He graduated from North Dallas High School not expecting to attend college but luck and good sense found him at Texas A&M from which he graduated in 1943. As a pilot in the Army Air Corps, he was awarded a Silver Star for his service in the Pacific Theater of World War II. Returning to Dallas, he went to visit his high school friend Catherine Alexander and her parents. Catherine left on a date but when she returned home, Tommie was still there. Tommie and Catherine were married in 1946 and celebrated 58 years of marriage before her death in 2005. Tommie and "Katie" were loving and supportive parents to two daughters, Cathie and Patsy. In 1964-65 Tommie, supported by his wife, served as president of the first PTA of the newly opened WT White High School. Their home was always open to a large circle of friends as was their get-a-way spot at the West Lakes Club in east Texas. They were members of Highland Park Presbyterian Church. Mr. Pierce joined Texas Distributors Inc.(now TD Industries) in 1960 and was an active proponent of the company's servant leadership management concept. He was elected President in 1983 and served as Chief Financial Officer until his retirement. He was active in The Dallas Rotary Club (President 1980-81), Dallas Council on World Affairs (President 1984-86), St. Paul Medical Center Foundation (President 1987), Dallas Better Business Bureau, United Way-Community Chest, Goals for Dallas and Dallas Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Pierce is survived by his daughters Cathie Moreland and her husband Dan of Austin, Patricia Ezell Meier and her husband David of Colorado Springs, Colorado, grandchildren Courtney Moreland Williams, Christopher Moreland, Scott Ezell and Shannon Ezell Gramata, great grandchildren, Jaxon Gramata and Steven Kennedy Ezell, and family friend, Steven Ezell. The family wishes to thank Dr. Mary Hammack and Amelia Dixon and her family and associates for their loving care for Tommie. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 27 at 10:30 A.M. in Wynne Chapel at Highland Park Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow the service in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a
charity of your choice.
