What a bright light Janie was in my life and the life of so many others. For 30 years Janie was my neighbor, friend, "sister," tennis opponent, Skip Bo teacher, and the embodiment of the joy of life. She was devoted to her husband, Charlie, children Randy and Camila, grandsons Trevor and Spencer and her large extended family. She embraced life each day and found beauty and joy in literally everything. In the years that Janie and I were close friends, I never heard her express a negative word or complaint. I will miss my dear friend but will have the example she set and the memories we forged, to keep a smile in my heart forever. Those who knew Janie will have the same gift from her!

I know Janie through my volunteer work at C.C. Young. I lead a hymn sing every Wednesday before lunch. Janie's love for singing and her enthusiastic faith lifted everyone there. Without fail, she always brought me fruit to brighten my day.

I often asked her what her favorite hymn was, and she said there were too many. But she always remembered mine and would never let the hymn sing end without requesting it: Just a Closer Walk with Thee.

Janie, you will be sorely missed by all who knew you but I'm comforted by the third verse of the hymn you always requested for me: "When my feeble life is o'er, Time for me will be no more; On that bright eternal shore, I will walk, dear Lord, close to Thee."

Randy and Camilla, I remember your mom so well and know you have so many wonderful memories. They won't take her place, but I hope they bring you comfort.
