Nancy Fiuzat Obituary

Published by Dallas Morning News from Jan. 29 to Feb. 19, 2017.
FIUZAT, Nancy Brugger 1937-2017 Nancy Brugger Fiuzat, age 80, beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, the 2nd of January 2017. Nancy was born to Emil Edwin Brugger and Olga Christine Hagen in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the 12th of August 1936. She graduated from Lutheran High School and attended Marquette University, receiving a BS in Medical Technology in 1958. After graduating she moved to Chicago and worked as a Med Tech at McNeal Memorial Hospital where she met Dr. Javad Fiuzat, whom she married in 1961. The couple first moved to Temple, Texas where Javad continued his surgical residency at Scott and White General Hospital and then to Dallas in 1965 where he completed his residency and established his private practice as a thoracic and vascular surgeon. In addition to being Javad's office manager until his retirement from private practice, Nancy was also a US Customs Agent at DFW Airport from 1981 to 1985. While there she was credited for being the responsible inspector for the largest single drug bust in the airport's history at that time. While raising a family and afterwards, Nancy was active in many organizations including the Norwegian Society of Texas (founding member), the Swiss Club of Dallas, the North Dallas Investment Club, Calvary Lutheran Church, her beloved Lutheran High School Class of 1954 Reunion, the Citizen's Advisory Board to the U.S. Post Office, and the Dallas Grand Jury. Nancy shared a love of travel with family and friends and spent considerable time visiting Scandinavia, Europe, Ecuador, and Greece. During her many trips to Greece, she was proud to tell of her visits with the Monks of Alambaca. Her curiosity and sense for adventure enabled her to meet people with ease and she was eager to "learn their story." As a result Nancy truly never met a stranger and was a friend to all she came in contact with. Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Olga, and her husband of 43 years, Dr. Javad Fiuzat. She is survived by her sons, Allen Fiuzat and wife Michelle Coyne of Nashville, TN, Michael Fiuzat and wife Lindsay Fiuzat of Houston, TX, and their two sons, Austin and Henry Fiuzat. The family wishes to thank the many caregivers that provided and cared for Nancy during her final months. Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Nancy during a reception from four o'clock in the afternoon until six o'clock in the evening on Friday, the 24th of February, in the home of Ann and Rob Taylor in Dallas, TX. An inurnment will be held at a later date for Nancy and her husband in Milwaukee, WI next to her mother and father. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests memorial contributions to be directed to Smile Train, PO Box 96231, Washington, DC 20090 (www. smiletrain.org).

I learned of your mom's passing a while back, but just ran across the obituary today. I worked with your father at Baylor Garland as the Technical Director of the Vascular Lab for many years. He always told me that I was so much like your mom, in that we both "never met a stranger". They were like my second set of parents here in Texas, as I was away from my family in California. This picture was taken at one of my daughter's weddings. They both made such an impact in my life, and I will never forget either one of them. I know they loved both of you boys, as well as both of the grandsons. I am terribly sorry for your loss. They were both very special, as I am sure you know.

Michael, Allen,
I have been thinking a lot about your mother lately and have been trying to find her phone number and look for you guys on Facebook..etc... I must have had a premonition about her passing. I only wish I would have asked sooner.
Nancy would come into the restaurant in Richardson and always ask for me. She made me feel so very special. She would take me to plays and take me to dinner. One of the plays that really stick out in my mind was "Six Degrees of Separation". There was a young man in this play that came on stage without clothing. We just looked at each other and laughed until we had tears in our eyes. I am truly sorry for your loss and miss her dearly.

I am truly sorry for your loss. In this world that we live in it is all to often that we lose people we love. But please take comfort in God's word at Matthew 11: 28 it says : " Come to me, all you who are toiling and loaded down and I will refresh you." Just one of many warm words and promises given to us from God's word.

Dear Allen and Michael and Families,

Your mom was an awesome friend with a personality bigger than life. I had so many good times with her, breakfasts, lunches, long, long chats. I have the best memories that leave a big smile on my face! I think about her often and will miss her. So glad that her last days were spent in Houston with family.

One of my lasting images of her will be of her driving that big pickup and stopping by to chat when I was working in the yard, always with her hair perfectly coiffed!

TO THE FAMILY;
