Bertie was adopted and raised by her grandparents, William and Mary Clampet, and her beloved aunt and uncle, Odis and Willie Mae Muston. Bertie wrote for various magazines and books including several personal newspaper columns in Texas publications. She also hosted her own popular radio broadcast show, "This Day With Bertie," in Dallas, Houston and Austin. Bertie was a childhood friend of my mother, who was also from Milam County. My mom visited Bertie several times when I drove her in the Austin big city traffic. Bertie predicted the name of the lady I would marry a few years down the road. She was right on! I always enjoyed being around Bertie and her husband. Her husband was a ham radio operator like me, so we hit it off. My mom told me how Bertie helped many people. They were good people, as we say in Texas.

When I was 12 I wrote a letter to Bertie about some fears I had. This dear lady took the time to write back with a deeply inspiring, thoughtful note. I know she is in heaven now with God.

I am grateful to Miss Bertie because without her I may not have gotten to know my biological father, two wonderful brothers and a little sister. She was specific and spiritual in her readings and always would strive to share good news. I will always remember her and I send my most sincere condolences to the family.
