John Dee will forever be missed. I first met him as Dr. Mangram on the campus off JCC. He would give me rides home to Dallas, and tell me that he had a brother who lived near me. As life would have it I ended up dating Bennie West for a while. I lost touch for a while when I began my family & career. However, when I stopped by for a visit some 15 years later John Dee knew exactly who I was. We enjoyed a great visit catching up. I recently began looking for him again at his home church only to learn that the Lord had called my teacher, mentor, & friend home. Dr. Mangram your memory will live on in my heart. PS: You will forever be Bennie West's pastor

Dr. Mangram (John D.) will forever be very special to me and my husband. He married us thirty-three years ago and with his spiritual counseling launched our marriage properly. He was also my parent's neighbor growing up. He was an inspiration to us as children and remained so throughout our lives. Through his great love of learning and the gospel, he touched so many. He is a true giant of the faith with a common touch. Over the years as we listened to him preach, we learned a great deal that has shaped and informed our lives. We were always happy to see him and will miss him dearly.

My family and I have so many fond memories of our beloved Uncle. I must say he was my favorite as well as a very fun and funny person. I remember when I had my son and named him Christian and he commented "Well we finally got a Christian in the family even if we had to name him. It is ok!" I thought that strange since of course I naturally assumed he considered himself to be a Christian BUT I think he really knew that we all strive every day to become true Christians! He was responsible for me visiting Bishop College and attending because he really had always been my mentor in many ways and I knew I had to be like him and succeed in order to get out of our hometown. I never wanted to be a minister and that is where we were different. I was Math and Science and thought I wanted to be a doctor but changed my mind early on. And yes I did graduate from Bishop in Computer Science! He traveled and lived in so many places and I was proud he was my uncle when he came home. He was never about you are going to hell but he asked why did you decide to do this or that and it always kept me on my toes. Sometimes I wanted to say none of your business but I knew better. I was always open to travel and left Texas for several years only to return, but not to Pittsburg. He talked to my boys and would question them about decisions or say good one, I think you could do worse. He was so philosophical sometimes like giving me Jonathan Livingston Seagull for a 1972 high school graduation gift long before many were using it. Strange gift I thought but I enjoyed. During my four years at Bishop, he and I would talk and a couple of times he was my sub religion teacher. He really was different. A little like my Dad but not as smart in some ways and a lot smarter in other ways. They helped keep me balanced. They were two of the favorite men in my life for a long time growing up and in my boys. Yes we will remember you my uncle and cherish your legacy.
