Early memories of my Papa are about that he loved cupcakes and shared them with me as a child, he also counted them and always knew when I had had one in the night. He whistled as he walked, he had duct tape on his shoes and we often watched movies of Ken at the soap box derby. I have early memories of him at his office the closet filled with wires of all colors in spools attached to the wall. I picked my colors as he punched holes in a penny to make me a necklace, more than once it was these efforts he made to make me happy. It was these memories many years later after he stopped working that made me desire to make him feel happy too. We had always had things in common like the intense love of my Nana a real source of his and my happiness and his work. Through out the years I had always asked him about what he had been doing at work and he peaked my interest with the projects he had done at NASA. It was his work that really defined his mindset I thought it was supercool and I bragged about it often that he was a rocket scientist. I became aware that it had always affected me and now his happiness or lack of it became my focus. Papa and I always talked about philosophy and science and my desire to combine them we also enjoyed talking about my Nana, he wanted to know how she was doing and about her birthday or Valentines days I could help him plan. It was when he got a little weaker our talks took on a more serious tone one where he shared some conflict of interest, best described in a quote by Einstein, "Peace cannot be kept by force it can only be achieved by understanding."It was his narrative about of lack of understanding as a whole. I responded and pointed out the basic laws of Nature. An understanding of that what makes us human and our relation to each other. He listened to me. It was his interest in our talks was now a crowning joy of my life. Knowing that he believed in the way I thought considered me interesting ,as his time well spent and always looking forward to our next conversation. His epic life would be best remembered as a pioneer in aerodynamics, thermo-dynamics, propulsion, and guidance control systems. My Papa has not only had an effect on me and my family but on the whole world. I myself feel he is forever Dynamic-Soaring. I love you now and always.
