Alexander Weisberg Obituary

WEISBERG, JR., Alexander F. Born December 30, 1926 to Marie Kahn and Alexander F. Weisberg and died on June 27, 2015. Loving husband of Polly Weisberg whom he married in 1967. Father of Susan McCain and Alexander H. Weisberg. Grandfather of Andrea, Jessica, and Clay Alex McCain. Predeceased by sisters, Emily Sunstein and Marie Jaffe. Survived by sister in law, Claire O'Malley, as well as several nieces and nephews. Alex was born in Dallas. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1944 while a freshman at Yale University, from which he graduated in 1950 with a BA, with honors in history. Graduated from Harvard University Business with an MBA in 1952. Alex served first on the Board of Directors and later as President (1971-1979) of E.M. Kahn, founded in 1872 ( one of the two oldest retail stores in Dallas). He was active in fundraising for the Dallas Heart Association, on the Executive Committee of the Dallas Symphony (1975-1976), and was an active officer in the Harvard Business School Alumni Chapter. From January 1980 to July 1982, he was President of Duke and Alyres, the oldest variety store in Texas, with 44 stores. He also served 19 years on the Board of Directors of Sugarland Telephone Company. Alex was with Drexel, Burnham, and Lambert as an investment broker for 1983-1987. He established Alex F. Weisberg Investment Advisor, registered with the SEC in 1988. In November of 1991 he became Chairman of Weisberg and Fields, Inc. and Co-Chairman in January, 1998. He retired from Weisberg and Fields in 2008. Mr. Weisberg was a member of the Finance Committee of the Dallas Community Homes for Adults (CHAI) and a member of the Finance Committee of the American Miniature Horse Association, which honored him in 2002 with the Distinguished Member Award, Director and on the Finance Committee of the Natural Area Preservation Association, and was a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Endowment Foundation for the Dallas Home for Jewish Aged (Golden Acres) as well as serving on the Advisory Committee of the Dallas Community Foundation. A Memorial Service will be held July 24th at 10:30 AM at Temple Emanu-El 8500 Hillcrest Ave, Dallas, TX 75225; a reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Weisberg Library of Temple Emanu-El, or Alzheimer's Association of Greater Dallas.

Sad loss. Alex was a true Gentleman and always had a ready smile. I am on my way to New Orleans and will not be here for his service, but please know, my thoughts will be with you all. Love, Sidney
