McGOWAN, Jean Jean Bedell Pauli Smith McGowan, Grandma, passed on to meet her Lord Tuesday evening, November 10, 2015. She died peacefully in her residence at Churchill Estates, Dallas, Texas, from cardiac complications at the age of 84. Jean was born November 16, 1930 in Seguin, Texas the third of five children, to Father Charles William Pauli, Jr. and Mother Hazel Amelia Reed Pauli. At 18 years of age, she was married to Maurice Goodwin Smith, Jr. on August 10, 1948, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in El Paso, Texas. Together they enjoyed fishing, gigging for frogs, entertaining friends and taking trips into Juarez Mexico for dinner and shows. After 29 years of marriage and some time after the death of her first husband in 1978, Jean met and married Walter Edward McGowan on September 6, 1985. For the next 29 years, they had a lovely life together traveling, entertaining friends and family, and enjoying their collective grandchildren. Jean was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, a Lake Highlands Womens Book Club and Hostess of various military wives events. Grandma Jean is remembered by her friends and family for her creative, artistic gifts of oil paintings, quilts, Easter dresses, bunnies and baskets, plus her exquisite cooking and baking skills. She is survived by her children Christine Ivanis and husband Matt of Kyle, Texas and son Richard Smith and wife Tammy of Dallas, Texas. Surviving grandchildren are Nicole Smith of Abilene, Texas, Carmen Smith and husband Drew of Plano, Texas, Meta Jane Smith and Darcy Jean Smith of Dallas, Texas. Her great grandson, Geronimo Ricky Smith, was the bright light in her final days as well as her beloved sisters in law, Joyce Pauli and Barbara Pauli of San Antonio, Texas and many special nephews and nieces. Services for Jean will be held in The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave. Dallas, Texas 75243, Friday, November 20, 215 at 10:00AM. The family welcomes you.
