Miriam KARLSBERG Obituary


News Death Notice

KARLSBERG, Miriam (Cohn) age 90, of Trotwood, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Zusman Hospice Inpatient Unit. She was a member of Beth Abraham Synagogue. She taught beginners piano, graduated from Fairview High School in 1941 and married Rubin November 8, 1942. She worked for Harry Jacobs Tobacco Company as a billing clerk; then in 1942, when Rubin enlisted, she worked for The Jewish Federation, later as secretary to a case worker and as executive secretary to Bob Fitterman, Executive Director of The Jewish Federation. When Rubin came home in December 1945, Miriam worked at the Dayton Bar Association as secretary to attorney Charles Fox followed by 18 years as Executive Secretary of the Beth Jacob Synagogue, retiring May of 1985. She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Rubin Louis in 2011 and parents, Antoinette & Samuel Cohn. Miriam is survived by her daughters & sons-in-law, Sandra & Mark Walton of IN and Sara & Alan Shatz of Columbus; son & daughter-in-law, E. Mark & Jane Karlsberg of Cincinnati; sister & brother-in-law, Rosetta & Kenneth Golden of Dayton; brother & sister-in-law, Daniel & Jan Cohn of Dayton; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and many other relatives & friends. Funeral service 1:00 PM Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Beth Abraham Cemetery Chapel, 1817 W. Schantz Ave. with Rabbi Bernard Barsky officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Beth Abraham Synagogue or charity of your choice in Miriam's memory. Arrangements entrusted to Marker & Heller Funeral Home, North Main St. Chapel.

Dear Mark,
I'm so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I well remember you and your family from our old Oxford Avenue days...so many years and miles ago. I never realized just how active she was within the Jewish community in Dayton and , therefore how she will be missed.
