DITZEL, William G. Age 86, of Kettering, was born June 8, 1929 in Dayton, and died March 6, 2016. Survived by his devoted and loving wife of 65 years, Mary Ellen (nee Frantz), they were sweethearts at Parker Co-op High School, and she remained the love of his life. Bill continued onto Wittenberg University and graduated from University of Dayton. Five children and their spouses survive him: Cynthia Hassan and her husband Michael, Constance Ditzel, Douglas Ditzel and his wife Maggie, Thomas Ditzel, and Patricia Hecht and her husband Jeff. Grandparent to eight grandchildren who delighted him: John and Laura Weidenbacher, Patrick, Nick and Ethan Ditzel, and Abby, Joe and Benjamin Hecht. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Thelma Ditzel, and his brothers Thomas and Jack. Bill Ditzel was a life-long Daytonian and owner of William Ditzel Productions, where he directed and produced promotional and industry films. He was among the early parishioners at St. Charles Borromeo Church and remained active in the choir and as an occasional "soundman." Many remember his strong and comforting voice in his early career on the radio and television, and in church as lector. In later years, Bill's "breakfasts with Grandpa" were a special treat. A helper to anyone who asked and a good listener with a broad smile and twinkle in his eyes, Bill was respected by many and consistent in his devotion to family, friends and neighbors, church and God. Grateful thanks go to his caregivers Ginger Schafer and Waynette King; Hospice of Dayton, especially Angie, Tricia and Jon; and Samantha at Golden Heart Senior Care. Visitation will be held at Westbrock Funeral Home, 5980 Bigger Rd., Kettering on Monday, March 14 from 4 PM to 7:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial is at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 4500 Ackerman Blvd., Kettering on Tuesday, March 15, at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St Charles Borromeo Church, Hospice of Dayton, or your charity of choice.
