I just heard about Darrel this AM. Although my family and I haven't heard from him for many years he would often come up in conversation. When he was in high school he was a frequent visitor to our home. I remember him and Ruth as very friendly and sincere people. I am sorry to hear about this and hope the best for all the family.

My thoughts are with you Mrs Lemke. Ruth you were my 4th grade teacher at Dawsett and Darrel was my history teacher. He was also my Galion history teacher and I took every elective class he taught during my years at Galion Middle School. To have him as a teacher during our Bicentenial in 1976 was one of the best experiences in my history. I learned so much more than the lessons that both of you as teachers taught us in your class rooms. I remember being welcomed into your home for a visit and glass of water before riding off on my bike. I also remember bringing you my 1st baby blanket before Bryan was born. Sitting out in the field behind Dawsett listening to you tell us about the 1st grader who ran into the principals office to let someone know that the teacher with the big tummy and red car got pulled over by the cops. The cop didn't see the bus driver wave you around her stopped bus. Ruth you and Darrell have always been my favorite teachers and I am very blessed to have been in your classes. I only found out last night from Susan Cerar that Darrell had passed. I sadly posted the news on the class of 81 page that we have on facebook. There are some of Darrells students from the other schools that are just now finding out because we no longer live in Galion. The first thing that popped into my mind when I got the news was Darrell telling us his Boo Cycrus joke about how Bucyrus got its name. My thoughts are with you, and much love and appreciation for both of you for being the great teachers that you were for me and so many others.

Dear Lemke Family,
I am a nurse at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, and I had the honor and pleasure of caring for Darrell when he was here last April. I try not to get too attached to my patients, but I definitely got very attached to him. He had such a kind soul, and we had many wonderful conversations while he was here. I have thought about him often since he left my hospital, and I was so hoping he would beat his cancer. I am so sad to learn of his passing. I am certain that he fought a brave battle for the past year. I looked forward to coming to work every day because I knew I was going to see him and the rest of his wonderful family. He was one of a kind, and I will never forget him. He touched my heart and reminded me why I love being a nurse. I send my deepest condolences and sympathy to all of you.

Dear Ruth, Brian, Jenny, and Family,
My heart still is sadden at the loss of my good friend Darrell. From the time we began to teach together in 1981 through the years that followed, he and I shared so many adventures. I still remember our trip to Boston and his thrill at doing the historical walk. We also spent nights prepping for International Days. What fun we had! I was privileged to have both of his children in class, two of the finest students I have ever had. Mere words cannot describe the fine person that was Darrell Lemke. His life and deeds live on in the thousands that he taught and touched. It was my honor and privilege to call Darrell a friend. I am pleased that his suffering is over, and he rests in the hands of the Creator.

Dear Ruth and family,
I just heard of Darrell's passing at church this morning. I remember so well working and laughing with him in the cafeteria kitchen at Harris-Elmore HS plus double dates with both of you during college. I've been reading the entries in the guest book, and it sounds like the sweet, kind, funny young man I remember from school kept those great qualities throughout his life. He surely will be missed.

Dear Lemke Family!
I was first introduced to Darrell on my very first teaching assignment.. Galion Middle School, 1984, 3rd floor! I worked right next to Darrell for over 20 years. His door, mind, and heart was always open to the students and staff 24 hours a day and 365 days a year if needed. He was the ultimate example of a man who dedicated his life to his family, his church, and his profession. He took me under his wing and introduced me to the world of teaching beyond the classroom, "Lemke Style." He shared unique historical stories which brought the lessons to life; he shared and orchestrated creative ways to bring the world of politics and culture to our students within the four walls of his classroom and the school. He always approached each day with a smile, warm fuzzy, or silly joke! Darrell was a master teacher and a professional example to me of a true educator, colleague, and friend. Darrell is the ultimate "Dream Catcher" and will always and forever be an inspiration to me! Becky (Martin) Swartz, GMS 1984-2002!

Ruthie and Family
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time.
I have a lot of memories of Darrell and
his sister being with my children on
grandpa/grandma Lemke's farm.
On Sunday afternoons many of Darrell's cousins gathered there for a fun filled day. I am sure he shared a lot of this with his family - as there was never a dull moment on the farm!
Please accept my sincere sympathy on his passing, but we know he is now at peace and resting comfortably with the Lord and Savior of us all.

My sympathies go out to Mr. Lemke's family. I was a middle school student in Galion back in the early 70's and he will always be Mr. Lemke to me! I really enjoyed talking to him and seeing his smiling face. He always had time for the students and was a lot of fun to be around. I know he will be missed greatly. My prayers go out to you. Take care.

Ruthie, Pattie, Brian, Jennifer and family,
Please accept our condolences on Darrell's death. I was disappointed that I was not able to get over to see him when some of the other cousins came to visit. Have good memories of times with him growing up. Being so close in age made the 4"D's" unique. I hope to get over for one of the services. If I do not get to see you, you will be in our prayers and hope that you feel the full love and support of our Savior now and in the future.

Although Darrell only spent a short time with us he quickly beacame a memeber of our rehab family. He has left footprints on the hearts of all of us here at Heartland of Miamisburg and he will forever be a smile on our faces when we think of him and his Boppie pillow. Thank you for sharing this wonderful man with us and God bless you all.
