News Death Notice

CATES, Anse "Smokey" 90, of Washington C.H. passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Friends Care Community in Yellow Springs. He was born December 10, 1921 in Big Hill, Kentucky to the late Jake and Sarah Kirby Cates. Mr. Cates was a World War II Veteran with the U.S. Marines. He was an Elder in the Christiana Biblical Church of God in Hollister, CA, a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post #4964 and a life member of the NRA. Mr. Cates was an electrical engineer employed by Evets Electric for Texas Eastern and a 40 year member of the electrical union Local #82. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cates was preceded in death by his wife of almost 60 years, Ella May Zimmerman in November 2011, a daughter, Diane Scott, a granddaughter, Diana Duteil, a great granddaughter, Ashley Marie Duteil, and a brother, Clifford Cates. Mr. Cates is survived by his four sons, Don (Larisa) Scott of Colden, NY, Henry (Marianne) Cates of Yellow Springs, Kenneth (Sylvia) Cates of Sugar Creek, Anse (Judy) Cates of Tallahassee, FL, two daughters, Dolores (Philip) Frederick of Beavercreek, and Patricia Gail (Mickey) Click of Centerville, and a sister, Isabella Combs of Hamilton, Ohio. He is also survived by many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cherished friends throughout the country. The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Morrow Funeral Home in Washington C.H. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Milledgeville-Plymouth Cemetery where he will be buried next to his beloved wife, Ella May. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
