Carmen Staino Obituary
Carmen J. Staino, Sr., 88, passed in peace surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, September 30, 2014.
Born in Philadelphia, PA he was the son of the late, Gaetano and Mary (Leonetti) Staino. Carmen lived in Drexel Hill, PA for 16 years and retired to White Haven, PA for 25 years before moving to Delaware in 2003 to be closer to his family. He proudly served his country from 1943 to 1945 in the U.S. Army during WWII. On December 19, 1944 Carmen was captured by the Germans and was a POW until he escaped on April 13, 1945.
Carmen retired in 1981 from the Local #19 Sheet Metal Workers in Phila., PA. He was a member of the Local #19 for over 50 years and was a long time VFW member, the POW Chapter #1 in Dover, DE and St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, Newark, DE. His passions included hunting pheasant, deer and rabbit, bowling and fishing.
Carmen was predeceased by his wife, Nancy P. Staino in 2008, sister, Philomena DeStefano. He is survived by his children; Patricia Jones (Larry), Carmen J. Staino, Jr. (Gina Mave), Rick (Maria Alice), Janet L. Ward (Lee); brother, Lewis Staino of Brookhaven, PA; 6 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 7th at 11:30 am in St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, 2431 Frazer Rd., Newark, DE. Family and friends may visit on Monday, October 6th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and again on Tuesday, from 9:00 to 10:45 am at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Hwy., Newark, DE. Burial will follow Mass in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Carmen to Disabled American Veterans, DAV.org/Donate.

Rest In Peace, my dear cousin Carmen. I can close my eyes and see you standing at my old job at the truck stop and thought it was my Dad. I always enjoyed your suprise visits and also when Janet took you to visit me at the restaurant when I was working. My deepest sympathies to all my cousins on the loss of your Dad. i am so sorry for your loss. Your Dad touched so many people is a positive way. He was a big inspiration in my life. I had the luxury of spending a lot of time with him growing up. If Rick and I were not in the garage building a race car then we were working on a project around the house.with your dad. Uncle Carmen was one of my favorite people and I always looked up to him. he was tough but always a straight shooter. But most of all he had a great heart. As tough as he was he was, Aunt Nancy ruled the roost and he was ok with that. I will miss him and wish him peace as he reunites with mom. God bless
