Died peacefully, Saturday morning, September 9, 2006, at Shipley Manor in Wilmington, DE.

Lois was born May 15, 1924 in Lock Haven, PA, the daughter of Emily Gray McCool and John B. McCool, Jr. She graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Penn State University, in 1945 with a degree in Microbiology /Bacteriology. She was married August 4, 1945. Lois worked briefly for Goodyear in Akron, OH, moving to Cleveland and then to Chadds Ford, PA. She and her husband settled in Stanton, DE. She retired in 1991 from the University of Delaware where she supervised the Microbiology/Bacteriology Labs. She was an active member of Phi Mu sorority, from her college years, and a member and avid book sorter for the AAUW. She and her late husband were charter members of the Delaware Underwater Swim Club, and spent several summers in Florida scuba diving "for treasure" with Explorer Boy Scouts. One of her greatest joys was having breakfast with Jacques Cousteau, when he visited Wilmington.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Benn E. Clouser; and sister-in-law (and college roommate), Mary L. Read. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Leslie Clouser of Wilmington, DE; and her daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Halsey Green, III, of Louisa, VA. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Chris and wife, Pam; Gabe, Keith and Lynn Clouser; Laura, Emily and Halsey Green, IV and Halsey's wife, Wendy. Additionally, Lois is survived by step-great grandchildren, Jesse of Sutherland, VA and Taran and Rhiannon of Pittsburg, PA, who were just beginning to know her. She will be missed by her brother, John B. McCool, III, and wife, Joyce, of Lewistown, PA; and her sister, Jane Burda of Pleasant Valley, NY. Nieces and nephews and their families from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Georgia, Virginia, Nevada and Arizona were saddened to hear of her death. Her extended family included friends, Carolyn and Phil Fuhrman and honorary grandchildren, TJ Wellman; Jesse Fuhrman and his wife, Miranda, David and Sam Fuhrman and Ashley Kelsso; and honorary nephew, Bob Boyden and his wife, Lynn.

A memorial service will be, 2 pm, Sunday, September 24, 2006, at NICHOLS-GILMORE FUNERAL HOME, 212 E. Justis St., Newport, DE, where visitation will begin at 1 pm.

The family suggests contributions, in Lois' memory, to the charity of one's choice.
