Ronald Coleman Obituary
Ronald M. Coleman, age 82, passed away at home on Friday, August 19, 2011.
He was born in Flint, Michigan in 1929 where he grew up, graduating from Bendle High School in Flint, playing for the 1946 city championship baseball team. After briefly working for Fisher Body (GM), he enlisted in the Army where he was in the new Universal Military Training unit in Fort Knox, before attending the University of Kentucky earning an Engineering degree. DuPont recruited him to work in Wilmington where he met his wife Catherine. After a few years in South Bend, IN he returned to Wilmington to work for the Star Enterprise Delaware City refinery where he retired after 32 years as Electrical & Instrumentation Supervisor in 1993. Ron was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Ella Coleman, brothers Bill, Jack, Benny, Albert, Dick, and Patrick, sisters Phyllis, Yvonne, mother-in-law Mary Daney, sisters-in-law Elizabeth Burns, Marie Daney, Marguerite Igo, and brothers-in-law John Daney and Joseph Daney.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Catherine Daney Coleman; his children John Walter Coleman & Eileen O'Shaughnessy-Coleman, Mary Ella Sutton & Ronnal, Brian Kevin Coleman & Rosemary, Dennis Michael Coleman, R. Gerard Coleman, Ann Marie DeHart & Michael, Andrew Francis Coleman & Wayne Alberts, and Elizabeth Nicholson & Donald; his 19 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law, Agnes Ryan and Jane Donnelly; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Ron had a great love of baseball, playing from his youth through high school, college, and leagues afterwards. He was an avid sports fan, following both college and pro sports, particularly baseball and the Phillies, and always following closely the activities and sports of his grandchildren.
Family and friends may visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Thursday, August 25 from 5-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington on Friday, August 26 at 11 am. Interment will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pine Ridge Native American reservation in South Dakota at www.friendsofpineridgereservation.org.
