WILLIAM KEMP Obituary

William G. Kemp

William G. Kemp, 86, of Elkton, MD died Friday, October 21, 2005, at his home.

Born in Baltimore, MD on July 12, 1919, he was the son of the late William G. Kemp and Mary Jane Klausman Kemp. Mr. Kemp was a graduate of City College in Baltimore and was attending Marietta College, Marietta, OH, when World War II began. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a parachute instructor. After completing Officer Candidates School in Ft. Belvoir, Captain Kemp was a Parachute Infantry Unit Commander and served in the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), parachuting behind enemy lines in North Africa and France. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star and Legion of Merit for action associated with D. Day. After the war ended, he returned to college at George Washington University where he was awarded undergraduate and law degrees. Mr. Kemp was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1952. During his legal career he served as a Magistrate Judge and had a private law practice in Elkton. In 1981, his son, Thomas, joined him in a law partnership. His hobbies included skiing, tennis and golf. He was an avid reader and crossword puzzler and delighted in the activities of his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Margaret L. Kemp; his children and their spouses and children, Thomas L. Kemp and Mary, Elkton, MD, and their children, Erica, Laura Jean, Caroline and Bryson; William R. Kemp and Suzy, Colorado Springs, CO, and their children, Michael and Abigail; and Barbara K. Russell and William, Wilmington, NC, and their children Lauren, Alton and David.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2005, at 11 am at the Elkton Presbyterian Church, 209 E. Main Street, and visitation on Wednesday, October 26, from 5-8 pm at HICKS HOME FOR FUNERALS.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution to The Tome School, in care of the Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton St., Elkton, MD 21921.
