Joseph Setting Obituary

Joseph S. Setting

AGE: 80 • Wilmington & Rehoboth Beach

Joseph S. Setting, age 80 of Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach, went to heaven on Thursday, May 8, 2014, holding his son's hand and surrounded by family and friends.

Joe was born in Wilmington on April 23, 1934 and served in the U.S. Marines, having been stationed in the U.S. as well as Japan. After retiring from the DuPont Company at their Chestnut Run site after almost 35 years, Joe worked for his son's business, Setting Properties, for 15 years up until he became ill 8 months ago.

He is predeceased by his parents, Louis A. and Elvira Natale Setting; brother, James Setting; sister-in-law, Marie Setting; and nephew, Allen Samsel. He was a widower twice with the passing of Beatrice Marsilii Setting and Grace Muscelli-Setting.

He is survived by his loving son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Setting II and Judy Landis Setting; beloved grandson, Joseph "Jay" Setting III; sisters, Louise Samsel (Henry) and Mary Setting; brothers, Louis Setting and Charles Setting (Diane); 23 nieces and nephews; great uncle, James L. "Rusty" Setting Jr.; many relatives in Wilmington including the Pierantozzi, Kokotaylo, Marsilii (Bill, Carmela, Regina, Elvina, Albert, Angela [predeceased]), Muscelli (Anthony II, Day, Anthony III, Elam), Southworth (Nicole, Andrew, Elena), and Walls (Ace, Sally) families; many relatives in Pittsburgh/Monaca, PA, including Sammy and Janice Setting; and many, many friends including Nancy Carver and his best friend, Johnny DiFebo.

Joe truly loved being with family and friends and enjoyed spending summers in Rehoboth. His winters in Florida also brought him great joy, and it was there he caught and released a prize 8' sailfish off the coast of Boca Raton. Eating Italian food was a passion for Joe and he loved spending time at St. Anthony's Club and with the DiFebo Family.

Adored by those that knew him, Joe will be greatly missed.

The family wishes to thank the following doctors who took such wonderful care of Joe: Drs. Ritter, Simpson, Moutsatsos, Piper, Zarek, Kwon, DePietropaolo, and Sokoloff. Gratitude is also extended to the nurses and staff of Kentmere Rehabilitation, Christiana Hospital, and the inpatient unit of St. Francis Hospital Compassionate Care Hospice.

Visitation will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th and DuPont Sts. in Wilmington, on Monday evening, May 12 from 6-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church on Tuesday morning, May 13 at 11am. Entombment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony of Padua Church, 901 N. DuPont St., Wilmington, DE 19805.

Uncle Joe,
My heart is heavy but the memories that we shared with you will always make me smile. So many shared meals at my mom and dad's house. Even after my dad went to heaven you continued to share, and break bread with all of us at T's house. I truly will miss you but I thank God I shared so many great memories with you. You will never be forgotten!! Give Dad a big hug from all of us.

Uncle Joe We had so much fun at the wedding. Loved your smile and your stories you will be missed

Joe,
It has been years since I've seen you, but I'll always remember you as my pop pop. Thank you for the many memories I have from my childhood. Going to the beach, Disney World, working with you during my summer breaks. May you rest in peace.

Godfather, There are four questions of value in life..... What is sacred? Of what is the spirit made? What is worth living for, and what is worth dying for? The answer to each is the same. ONLY LOVE
You will always have a special place in my heart.
Miss you Uncle Joe, Love Toni
