I remembered today how you would drive me home from school every day. You did it for years, and I barely talked to you. I was a pretty rotten grade-schooler, and I was transitioning into a slightly less-rotten high-schooler. Those years I really kept to myself, and I wish I hadn't. I'm sorry for not sitting down and talking to you more, back then.
When you were starting to slip away, we would visit you as a family every month or so. Even though it got harder and harder to keep up a conversation with you, I really, really wanted to try. I remember that every once in a while I'd see a spark of your vivacious personality, which I suppose I was really discovering for the first time. I think I was trying to make up for all those times where I actively avoided you as a kid. And even though it would be for only a moment, I was glad see that you would remember for a second.
Anyway, after I left for college, I always said that I would come back to visit you whenever I was back in town. I did a few times, and I even brought my college sweetheart to meet you. You asked us when we were getting married, and we laughed. It would have been wonderful for you to see us get married. I think you will, honestly. You're invited to the wedding, of course.
I miss you, Grandma. It's been almost two years, and I think I still have dreams that you are alive, and that I'm visiting you in your home. I still pray for you, too. I should make the effort to visit you and say these things, instead of just typing them out. You made the effort to drive me around every day, so I think I can do the same for you at least one time.
I love and miss you, Grandma.
