William Wier Obituary

William Wier, Jr.

AGE: 81 • Wilmington

Bill died in Wilmington Hospital on Sunday January 15, 2017 from complications of pneumonia. He was the son of the late William J Wier, Sr. and Helen Millard Wier.

After Wilmington Friends School, Bill graduated from Colgate University and Yale Law School. He worked in DuPont Legal Department and with the US Attorney. He continued in private practice with Connelly, Bove, and Lodge; Murdoch and Walsh; and Bader, Dorsey, and Kreshtool on a variety of cases.

Bill and Betty, his wife of 50 years, loved to travel to a wide range of places - Africa, Central and South America, including the Galapagos, Far East, and Europe. His trip collections include countless masks, wall hangings, and artifacts. These fill in spaces next to his multitude of books.

He was predeceased by his sister Suzanne. Besides his wife, he is survived by dinner table partner Zoe the dog.

Through Humanity Gifts Registry, Philadelphia, Bill is donating his body to medical school for teaching purposes.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 5, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the First Unitarian Church. Donations may be made to First Unitarian Church, 730 Halstead Road, Wilmington DE 19803.

Betty, I was so sorry to hear of Bill's death. I always looked forward to seeing the two of you at OLLI. You were the perfect symbol of love and caring. Bill impressed me with his desire to continue the learning process even though it was physically difficult for him to get around, but you made it all possible for him.
Please know that I will continue to keep you in my positive thoughts.
Love,
Mary Lew

Sorry to hear of the passing of Bill. Used to see him a the Academy of Life Long Learning and even though he had some health problems, he participated in the classes he was attending. Used to see Betty taking care of him and she did a great job of helping him enjoy the classes.

Bill was a good friend who I first met when I clerked at Connolly Bove and Lodge backin the 60s. He helped me a lot and I was so impressed by his brilliance.

Have not seen him in recent years because I have been trying to organize my own life as a senior citizen. And have wondered how he was doing.

My best wishes to Betty who was so important to Bill.

Recall how years ago after my children were in bed, Bill would run upstairs and scare then - much to their delight and my dismay. Also we used to play penny poker and when Bill won he would leave his winnings behind. Sorry it has been so long since we had contact. Do believe we saw one another at what was then called the Academy of Life Long Living. Hope you are doing well Betty. Blessings and well wishes to you.
Walt's wife, Georgie died Tues. morning. Hr is in rehab and doing very well.
Much LOVE TO ALL.
