CHRISTINA KYJ PLUTA, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away on September 6, 2016, surrounded by her family. Chris had a dynamic, gregarious personality and delighted in engaging friends and strangers alike in conversation. Chris was born in South Hampton, NY to Ukrainian immigrants Wasyl and Lydia Kyj. She was a graduate of Nether Providence High School, Trinity College (B.A. Biology), and Widener University (MBA). She worked at Wistar Institute until she decided to enter the family business, Kyj’s Bakery. Chris was dedicated to the bakery’s loyal customers, and specialized in designing and decorating specialty cakes. An active supporter of many Ukrainian-American organizations, she served as President of Branch 13 of the Ukrainian Women’s League. She was a lifelong member of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church. Chris leaves behind a legacy of love. Her family and countless friends will greatly miss her but are forever grateful for having known her. She is survived by her devoted husband John; children Anne, Larissa, John, and Andrew; brother Myroslaw (Larissa), niece and nephews Olesh, Lada and Evhen; sister-in-law Patricia, and many cherished friends. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Sunday from 6 – 9 P.M. at Carr Funeral Home, 935 S. Providence Rd (Route 320) Wallingford. Funeral Mass at Holy Myrrh-Bearers Ukrainian Catholic Church, 900 Fairview Rd Swarthmore. Monday at 10 A.M. Interment private. Dear Pluta family,
I am very sorry for your loss. I am just a customer who for the last 12 years have been coming to your bakery once a year to buy Easter bread - Paska or Babka as some people call it. I had a pleasure to meet Christina and had some lovely conversations with her. I come from far away because your Easter bread is the best I ever had! I just found out today about Christina's passing. This coming Sunday, on Ukrainian Easter , I will be thinking of Christina and how special our holidays have been with Paska that your family have been making for many years. Please, keep good traditions and keep baking!!!

I was sorry to hear of Chris's death in the Trinity alumnae journal recently. She was an effervescent woman and well remembered by those of us her knew her. Her loss must leave a big void in your lives but I hope your memories will help fill it over time.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Chris during my junior year, her sophomore year at Trinity. She was easy to talk to and you knew way back then that her family meant the world to her. I am not surprised to read how giving she was to her family and surrounding community. Chris left quite a legacy.

I had the pleasure of working with Chris for years. She would call to place her help wanted ads in the Daily Times. I am so very sorry for your loss. She was just the most pleasant, even tempered LADY that I did so enjoy speaking with. Just a Joy to brighten up a day. She did so love her FAMILY and she spoke about all of you, all the time.
Heaven certainly gained a wonderful Angel the day that you lost her.

To the Pluta Family, I am so sorry to hear of this loss. I went to KYJ'S in 1992 to get my wedding cake and she was wonderful. Sometime ago, I went to the NAACP awards and they were honoring her. She was determined to stay and serve in the city and treated everyone with respect. Her family was by her side and everyone gave her a stunning standing ovation. I had the chills. It was so nice to know that the color did not matter, only the Love.

Mr. Pluta,

I am very sorry for the loss of Mrs. Pluta. She was a wonderful wife, mother to her children, an excellent volunteer and a hard worker. She did an excellent job in making the butter pound cake for my wedding in 2009. I will miss those delicious raisin squares that she has made at her bakery. Please keep her in your prayers and remember all the times you and the rest of the family had with her.

Iam deeply saddened on the loss of Christina she was such a wonderful woman. I loved going into the bakery seeing that smile and warm friendly conversations. Im practically there everyday to grab something sweet, 16 yrs. ago I came to her for a cake for my son who has severe food allergies, Christina assured me she would personally take care of it not to have any chance for cross contamination. Well 16yrs. later and he's never had a problem and his cakes were amazing. His birthday is coming up Oct. 1 and I'm going to miss you my friend. I could go on and on about how wonderful she was staying late or opening early to make sure I got whatever it was I ordered. Rest Well praying for all of you she will be dearly missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Chris's passing. We were just together in June for our reunion at Trinity, and I am stunned. We were roommates for 2years and went to our reunions together for a number of years. I have wonderful memories of Chris and please know you are all in my prayers.
