ASHLEY — Bennett Franklin Swope, 82, of Ashley, passed early Sunday morning, Jan. 25, 2015 at Grady Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 31, 1932 in Clearspring, Maryland, to the late Herbert M. Swope and Jennie (Cordell) Swope.
Bennett worked as a superintendent for the National Oats Company, Popcorn Division for 24 years and later retired from the maintenance department at Grady Memorial Hospital after 15 years.
He was an accomplished blacksmith and loved going around to various towns demonstrating his craft. He also enjoyed woodworking as well.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of almost 60 years, Sandra "Sandy" (Shifflett) Swope; sons, Bennett Franklin (Sheila Kay) Swope II of Marion and Derek (Sheila Anne) Swope of Columbus; daughter, Denise (Donald David) Murphy Jr. of Mutual, Ohio; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Downs of Hagerstown, Maryland and Wilda Synan of Maryland; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Swope; and sisters, Katherine Wallace, Betty Burger and Verna Brandenburg.
There will be a Celebration of Life Gathering from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015, at the Oxford Township Hall, 5125 Shoemaker Road, Ashley.
Contributions in Bennett's memory may be made to the family.

So sorry for your loss Sandy.Ben will be missed but he's giving the angels a run for their money!!!! Will always remember his sense of humor and his endless teasing nature. He was a great man.RIP Bennie.
