DELAWARE — Paul L. Howald, 85, of Lewis Center passed away late Thursday evening, April 27, 2017 at the Inn at Bear Trail in Lewis Center.
He was born June 1, 1931, in Union County to the late Ralph and Dorothy (Mayes) Howald. After graduating high school, he attended Austin College in Texas and later graduated from the Ohio State University with a degree in Geology.
He also proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force.
Alongside his daughter, Paul owned and operated Howald Fireproofing and later Paul's Vending. With a love of sailing, he was a former member of the Leatherlips Yacht Club and he also taught his daughter and other family members how to sail. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and being outside gardening and doing yard work with his wife, Charlou. Sadly, she passed away on February 9, 2016. Paul was also an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Lisa (Zachary) Austin of Lewis Center; four grandchildren, Kimberly Lynne Coates, Elizabeth Annie Marie Schneider and Nicholas and Corey Meadows; four great grandchildren, Deon Lewis, Marshall Mitchell Schneider and Kaylee and Trent Meadows; several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents and his wife of 56 years Charlou, Paul was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert "Bob" and Ralph "Jim" Howald.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 6, 2017, from 2 – 4 p.m. at the Snyder Rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive (formerly 1510 W. William Street), Delaware. Celebration of Life services will follow at 4 p.m.
