Trip home to Grand Island recently brought back memories of Mark. I was driving by the home where is family once lived. I did not hear about his passing until a few years afterwards. His death brought a profound sadness even though I hadn´t seen him in 30 + years. He was my first serious boyfriend and my boss at McDonald´s. A lot of great memories. He was such a great guy. Cancer sucks. Takes all the good ones. Apologies this is a little late but condolences to his wife and daughters. Hope they are doing well. He is missed by many and remembered by all who were lucky enough to know him.

We are approaching our 40th high school reunion (Class of 1979 Grand Island). I never saw this obituary, I didn't know Mark passed until it was all over. I didn't know he was sick. I learned after. I did run into Mark at a mall and I later learned he knew he was sick when I saw him but he didn't say so. When we were young we were close. He was best man at my first wedding and I at his. We drifted apart through life as so many friends do. So, I wasn't a good friend when he and his family went through this horrible time. But, as I reflect on the time we shared, it felt like we were bound for life . It was fun, hopeful and life forming. Mark loved music, I went to see Van Halen with him ( my first concert) and many others. His laugh would make you laugh. 40 years ago. I hope Jeannine and the girls are doing well. As we head into the reunion week, I just wanted to remember Mark and say some things I never did. Peace to Marks family.

Mark holds a special place in my heart. In those crazy high school days, what I remember most about Mark is his kindness and the fact he loved to laugh. The picture of Mark I have in my head is one where he has a big smile on his face.

Dear Jeannine, I know we have only recently found each other again, but I hope you know that I am here for you if you need me. It will always be a deep regret that I never got to meet Mark. He sounded like such an exceptional husband and father. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your children. Love, Jeannette

Mark will never be forgotten. He always made his fellow colleagues feel welcome and always greeted everyone like a lifelong friend. This is the time we will all think back and remember how Mark touch all of our lives. How he helped each of us, made us laugh and what a wonderful person he was everyday. I am thankful I was given a chance to know him.

Jeannine, I am an SSR in N.J. I am saddened t0 hear of the passing of Mark. I know this is a difficult time for you and your family and my wife, Barbara, and I would like to express our condolences. If 26 years ago, God came to you and said " would you like Me to give you a husband and three beautiful daughters", you would say yes immediately. Remember those 26 years and concentrate on that time to ease the sorrow of the present. People who lose someone have the tendency just to think about the present, but it is the memories that keep you going. Mark and your family will be remembered in our prayers.

Respectfully,

Leon and Barbara deFrance
