Frank McClain Obituary

McClain, Frank H.

Churchville: In loving memory of Frank Hunter McClain- husband of Sherry McClain, and father to Marshall and Marcy McClain. Frank passed on September 11, 2011 at age 65. He is preceded by his father Fred H. McClain, Jr and his mother Elma (Locke) McClain. He is survived by his twin brother- and best friend- Fred L. McClain and family (Sandy, Melissa, Tom, Marie, Nathaniel, and Norah). Frank was active throughout his life in the Boys Scouts of America. He was an avid outdoorsman with a particular love for canoeing. His times on the water and in nature were probably the most peaceful of his life. He is also a member of the Masonic Order Wakan-Hubbard Lodge No. 154. He will be remembered for his honesty, integrity, and his surprising sense of humor.

Friends are welcome to Frank's visitation WEDNESDAY 6:00-8:30 PM at Walker Bros Co. Funeral Home 21 S. Main St. Churchville, NY 14428. A remembrance service will follow visitation at 8:30PM. Burial services will be for family members only. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Boys Scouts Juniata Valley Council, 9 Taylor Dr, Reedsville PA 16875; the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge 1400 Winton Rd. N. I just learned this morning from John Barrett that Frank died while I was traveling out of state.

My sincere condolences to you, Sherry, and to Marcy.

I will miss seeing him on Black Creek and his stopping for a chat whenever he swung by the launch to see who was on the water. He had a great sense of humor and an outstanding love of canoeing. I'll think of him each time I paddle Black Creek.

You all will certainly be in my thoughts in the days ahead.

To Frank's family, We have really enjoyed spending time with Frank at Mendon Ponds or Canadice lake. His warm smile and easy-going manner will be missed. I think in paddling he found a nice quiet place to be; just like the rest of us out there on the water. And I invite you to join us anytime and maybe you can find that peace, too. Just pick up his paddle and start where he left off. Calm waters to you all, Steve Amy and kids

Shery and family,

I worked with Frank for over 30 years. I am so sorry to learn of his passing. Frank was the kind of friend and co-worker everyone should experience once in their life. His sense of humor, dedication and desire to produce the very best he could made it enjoyable just to be around him. I'll always remember the times we took a break and solved world problems at his desk or mine. I'll miss him.

Sherry, Marshall & Marcy,
I was completely heartbroken when I read of Franks passing this morning. I have worked with Frank for over 25 years. He was such a great man, with a canoe story or photo to show off every chance he could. I loved hearing his stories as much as he loved to tell them. I had the pleasure of seeing Frank about a month ago. He called me to see if he could stop over just to say hello...as he was in Webster that day. We shared a cold drink and he couldn't wait to tell me that Marcy bought a canoe and she was now going out with him. His smile was from ear to ear. That's how I will remember him. May you find comfort in knowing that Frank was a happy man. God bless you and your family during this difficult time. Fondly,

Cliff Schultz

Our thoughts are with you and your daughters...

So sorry to hear about Frank's passing. We were in Cub Scouts together. Just a few weeks back he ordered a t-shirt from me. Hadn't realized he'd been struggling with cancer that was so devastating. It seems like a small part of me is also gone, even though we hadn't been in close touch for many years. My condolences to the family. (Jim Krut, Gettysburg, Pa.)

Sherry & Family,
I'm sorry to hear that Frank passed away; I worked with Frank for many years at Xerox, he was always willing to go out of his way to help his fellow workers. On several occasions he did me personal favors; he talked about his mornings canoeing on local streams and rivers and his involvement with the Boy Scouts. Although we didn’t socialize, we were friends at work and I will always remember him for his generosity. May he rest in peace! Our prayers are with you and your family during these strenuous times.

Marcy and family,

I'm so sorry to hear about Mr. McClain's passing. When I saw him this spring, he looked great and had his usual smile and sense of humor. I always looked forward to seeing him at the trading events and catching up. Many of my favorite memories from scouting include Mr. McClain. I'm going to miss him. My thoughts will be with you all.

Sherry, Marshall, and Marcy: I was honored to work with Frank in the Boy Scout program through our local Troop 292. We also worked together in the Campmaster program, Order of the Arrow, and cook crew for many events in our council. Frank was a person who stood up for the highest Scouting standards for both the boys and leaders. We spent a lot of time talking about our common interests of guns, hunting, and love of the outdoors in our down time at these endeavors. Spring through fall, Frank would have one of his canoes tied to the roof of his car and he drew continual verbal jabs for it at our scouting events. This would always lead to a conversation about his love of paddling. Frank's dry sense of humor would always catch us by surprise! His contributions to the scouting program were always appreciated and his presence will be greatly missed.
