Jack Schifano Obituary

Schifano, Jack

Sodus: Gone but not forgotten, passed away at age 37, on May 31, 2013. Predeceased by his father, Dominick Schifano. Survived by the love of his life, wife Michelle Gayk Schifano; 4 year old daughter Grace AnnMarie, his sunshine, his everything, who will ALWAYS love her daddy "to the moon and back"; and their unborn son, Baby Schifano.

Also survived by his mother, Annette Rivoli Schifano; siblings, Marie Angela (William LoVetro), Joseph Michael Schifano, Cherylann Schifano Hewitt, Dominic Schifano, Patricia Schifano and Paul Schifano; grandmother, Jennie Schifano; father-in-law, Don Gayk; mother-in-law, Linda Streevy Gayk; brother-in-law, Michael Gayk (Courtney Starrett); several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; aunts and uncles; cousins and far too many friends to name.

Jack was the youngest of 7 children, born in Rochester, NY on September 12, 1975. Jack may have been the baby but he was big in both size and stature. Jack was a Boy Scout when he was young, and went on to earn his Eagle Scout. Jack was an avid outdoorsman. Jack's father handed down a love of hunting, especially turkey hunting with dad's handmade turkey calls. Jack and his father often spent quality time fishing, a tradition Jack shared with his daughter, who will no doubt show her brother "how daddy did it". Jack had a heart of gold and most of his days he was consumed with taking pictures and videos of his beautiful daughter; his most prized possession. He would generously share his love for her with the world, with a pride only a father could know. In the evenings he worked as a Direct Support Professional, with Developmentally Disabled children at Hillside Children's Center. Jack was hired because he told his interviewer that if he could make a difference in just one child's life then he knew he had done his job. He was highly dedicated and devoted to his job. Jack had a compassion for comradery and brethren; this led him to join the Rochester Beardsmen Society. He attended, supported and created many events in their name, as promoter, quickly earning himself the beloved title "Sgt in Arms". Jack, also known as "The Reverend Harrington" was an entrepreneur as well, creating and selling his very own "Reverend Harrington's 17 Moustache Wax". He would hold Instagram competitions seeking out the best moustache pictures, broadening his fan base, creating opportunity to sell his product worldwide. Jack had recently shown enthusiasm for motorcycle riding. Jack was a member of Livin Proof Motorcycle Club, in Sodus, NY; a great group of local bikers. Jack, also a loyal member of the NY Drunx, always had an intense love for music. He had an entire studio in his home and would play music tenaciously, even without a band. His heart and effort was always so much stronger than even those we knew who aspired to be professional musicians, but that was Jack, he poured his all into everything he did.

Jack Schifano was so much more than just a man, he was a husband and soul mate to his wife, a best friend forever to his young daughter, a protector; guardian over his family while here on earth, and now as an angel up in Heaven. He was a beloved son, brother, friend, and to some, he was Uncle Jax. Regardless of how you knew him it was obvious, he was a kind and loving man with a taste for living his life to the fullest, happily bringing us all along for the ride…be it on a motorcycle, packed in one car on a trip to New Jersey for a Beard Competition, at his dinner table for a fresh home-made meal, through his eyes in the many photographs and videos he shared, or when he was in his most favorite of places; home with "his girls" whom he adored. To know Jack was to love Jack, he will be greatly missed. We all Love you Jack, Now and Forever.

His family will receive friends on THURSDAY 12 noon - 2 PM and 4-8 PM at the funeral home, 1650 Empire Blvd., Webster. On FRIDAY, please join Jack's family at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery (2461 Lake Ave., Rochester 14621)at 11 AM where his Funeral Service will be held in the Christ Our Light Mausoleum Chapel followed by interment. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the family for a fund for Jack's children.

Patty (and family), I am truly sorry for your loss. It's been many a year since I'd personally known Jack, but in my interaction with him in his teen years (that you'd recently alluded to his looking to me as inspiring his love of playing music, which brought me great satisfaction), I could see that he was going to be an exceptionally feeling, perceptive, and loving human being. My only regret is that I wasn't able to stop out and see him last year when you invited me to. To see him in his element, and to experience the man he had become; loving life, family, and everything it has to offer. To quote Billy Joel: "Only the good die young." You know I've experienced it...my thoughts and prayers are with you.

My heart goes out to Jack's family. I only met him a few times as he photographed the band, "Sisters of Murphy" in which my husband plays. He was a genuinely nice guy, happy to show off pictures of his daughter, but also just as excited to see pictures of mine. May he rest in peace and keep watch over us all.

What a beautiful story of rememberance. Jack was a thoughtful, caring person with a big heart. Though I didn't know him well, the times I spent in his company will be remembered. He was such a happy guy and will be missed by many. My heart goes out to his family, wife and children. I know the many people who loved him will keep his spirit alive for his children. Rest peacefully Jack.

Sometimes our words are just not enough, so let me sent some words of comfort from the God of mercies and all comfort.
Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Psalm 62:8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. I am so sorry for your loss. I know your heart aches and you must have many questions, but someday we will know and understand why our trials came. Trust in God.

Oh, how my heart goes out to my dear cousin Anne Schifano and of course all of Jack's family, especially his wife and little Gracie. I just heard of Jack's passing and my words just cannot express how I feel. Please know that I will pray for the whole family. This is a hard thing to bear, but I know someone who will help you and knows all about your cares. 2Corinthians 1:3-4 "Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God." One day we will know and understand the why we had to experience this trial. May God have his perfect will in your heart. Proverbs 3: 5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto thine own understanding, in all thy ways acknowledge him and He shall direct thy path." . . . my love and prayers are with you. . . cousin JoAnn Dutton in Arizona.
