Rochester: Born in Hudson, NY, on September 17, 1930, Skip attended Syracuse University and graduated in 1952 magna cum laude and was Phi Beta Kappa. In 1952, he married Joan Faigle. After serving in the Army for 2 years at Ft Meade in Maryland, he then attended Yale University and graduated from the Law School in 1957. Skip joined the law firm of Nixon, Hargrave, Devans & Dey (now Nixon Peabody) where he became a partner. He left Nixon in 1982 to join Sybron as General Counsel. In subsequent years, he continued to practice law, ultimately retiring from Ward Greenberg where he enjoyed mentoring a number of young lawyers over many years.

Skip served the Rochester community in various capacities. He was a board member of the Rochester Museum & Science Center, Monroe Community College, the Rochester Institute of Technology, WXXI and the Automobile Club of Rochester among many others. Skip also was a Trustee of Syracuse University. He was a member of the Genesee Valley Club and the Country Club of Rochester. He was a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Peace.

His greatest joys were spending time with family, especially grandchildren, at their cottage on Summerland Island on the St Lawrence River and on Grand Cayman where they owned a condominium for many years.

Skip passed away peacefully on March 22, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joan, and two of his three children, Robert (Susan) and Cynthia. Betsy predeceased Skip in 2014. Skip had six grandchildren, Jeffrey Hallenbeck (Kay), Christopher Hallenbeck (Lauren), Alexandra Libby, Michael Daly (Kelly), Erica Libby and Catherine Daly. He also is survived by 1 great-grandchild, Claudia Hallenbeck.

Friends may call Friday, March 24, 4-7 PM at the funeral chapel (2305 Monroe Ave.). A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 25, 11:30 AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 601 Edgewood Ave. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Skip's memory may be made to the Rochester Museum & Science Center 657 East Avenue, Rochester, NY, 14607 or River Hospital, Development Department, PO Box 567, Alexandria Bay, NY 13607.
