On October 16, 1944 Marie was united in marriage with Irmin Michael Reding at St. Boniface Church in Westphalia. Marie and Irmin farmed west of Defiance until 1958 when they moved to a farm north of Manilla. They were the parents of five children and Marie was a full time homemaker and farm wife. They retired from farming in 1977 and moved into Manilla.
Marie enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends. She loved cooking (especially pies), gardening, flowers, and dancing. In addition she crocheted afghans and painted holiday ceramics for all her children. Marie loved all sports and was an avid Hawkeye fan. Marie was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Manilla and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Nishna Valley Club and National Twin's Club.
Marie enjoyed good health the majority of her life. When she could no longer live alone at home in Manilla she became a resident of the Manilla Manor Nursing Home where she died on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 17 days.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Irmin in 1998; sisters Ella Nielson and Evelyn Coenen and three brothers Anthony Schechinger, Valentine (Sonny) Schechinger, Jr. and Elsworth (Buddy) Schechinger.
Marie is survived by three sons Vernon Reding and wife Chris of Tucson, AZ; Marvin Reding and wife Deb of Grinnell and Larry Reding and wife Pat of Omaha, NE; two daughters Linda and husband Lyle Muhlbauer of Holt, MO and Deb and husband Jim Davis of Fremont, NE; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister Jeanette and husband Raymond Chipman of Harlan; brother Melvin Schechinger of Manilla; in-laws Grace Schechinger of Manilla, Dorothy Schechinger of Harlan, Melvin Coenen of Elk Horn and Bob Nielson of Omaha, NE; very special friends Rosalie (Big Sis) and Jim Macumber of Manilla; other relatives and many friends. Memorials May Be Made To: Sacred Heart Church in Manila or Crawford County Hospice.
Visitation and prayers were Sunday, May 8, 2011, after 3:30 p.m. Rosary 4:00 p.m. and prayer service 6:30 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla, IA. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, May 9, 2011, 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, Manilla, IA with Rev. Robert Gralapp officiating. Lectors; Lori Taylor and Sara McKay. Gift Bearers; Deb Davis and Linda Muhlbauer. Mass Servers; Tember Schechinger and Jezlynn Schechinger. Eucharistic Minister; Pat Reding.
