George SAWAYA Obituary

George J. Sawaya, born August 14, 1927, in Trinidad, Colorado to Joseph and Hazel Sawaya. In 1952 he founded and was long-time CEO of the Sawaya Body & Trailer Company. He was a master craftsman, builder, artist and a renowned Denver musician. A tenor saxophonist and clarinetist, he played his first professional job at the age of 8 years old with his brother Jess in Trinidad, Colorado clubs. He brought his music to Denver, touring in the mid 1950s and playing for Denver clubs and private parties over six decades. George owned a home on the Denver Country Club. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jacqueline M. Sawaya, three children, Alice, Michael and Dianne, a sister Jane Sawaya, seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation, 4:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday, Horan & McConaty, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd. Funeral Service, 1:30 PM Monday, St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, 1060 St. Francis Way, Denver. Interment will be in Fairmount Cemetery.

Good By old Friend. I treasure our band experiences and laughs we enjoyed at our Friday Breakfasts. I will miss you and your dry sense of humor. You are now in the arms of Jesus.
