Dear members of the Ivan Tate family - You are in our prayers. We are very sorry for your loss. I am recalling the times long ago when we started interacting with you. We launched "our" traveling basketball team. As a group of young men, we had a great team and a lot of fun. Most of us ended up working at the Boys School at one time or another. As our team captain, it was Tate who inspired us with a sense of confidence, drive, team work and wanting to achieve more. I am thankful and feel blessed for the experience. I fee that we all took hold of Tate's ideas, ran with them and thus, knowing Tate made us better people. Many times when someone leaves us, we don't share the level of impact that the person had on our lives. I did not want for this to be one of those times. Tate had a big positive impact on my life and the lives of others that we knew. Knowing and having Tate in my life and the rest of the families' lives was truly a blessing. We will continue to think of him and tahnk God for the blessing that he was to all of us. Thank You. The Honor Family from Glendora, CA and Denver, CO

My thoughts go to Donna and family. I knew Ivan as a mentor and friend when I was a true "rookie" at LMS in 1971. He really helped me through the first couple of years, and we worked together with a group of learning disabled kids for a time. He helped me understand how special some of those kids are, and I never forgot his sensitivity toward their needs--nor his ability to mete out discipline when necessary. Great leader, great teacher--So sad, and yet it is wonderful to know he is at peace and without pain!
In prayer for all-- Della Dickerson

To the Family of Ivan Tate,
Having worked with Ivan for much of his outstanding 35+ years in the Colorado Division of Youth Services/Corrections, it is so very important to acknowledge his many contributions to the youth and employees of our system as a highly respected leader and a "hands-on" professional. Colorado's high-risk kids are losing a champion that truly cared and advocated vigorously for them. God bless you all with lots of wonderful memories. We that worked with Ivan certainly have many of our own. He leaves an amazing legacy!

My deepest sympathy to the family. Ivan was a friend and mentor to many and whenever things needed to be done regarding services to kids and their families, he was always there. It was fun working with him because he had such a great sense of humor. He worked with me and Carmen to start the Coalition for Minority Youth Equality. It is still in existence and has given funding to programs to work with all youth..no exceptions. Thanks to Ivan for his dedication and commitment in making the juvenile/criminal justice system better. I will miss his laugh and his kindness he showed to everyone he met. He was a shining star on earth and will be an even brighter star in heaven. We will miss you but your Spirit will always be with us. Your Friend, Cec

Uncle Ivan, like an ever-lasting candle, your smile, laughter, and the memories of the many vacations, holidays, and special times we spent together will forever be cherished.
May all family and friends rejoice and be happy, for you are free at last--no more pain suffering or misery. You'll be missed, but not forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers are expressed to the entire Tate Family. We met Ivan & Donna through our late brother and sister-in-law (Bob and Annette Rease). We have always remembered the friendship that existed between them. Ivan & Bob worked together, and shared many great times. Any time that we have been in the midst of Ivan, he was always a very pleasant person. We are so sorry about the loss, and we wish God's Blessings upon each of you. May Ivan's memories always be cherished, & may God give you strength, comfort, and peace within.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the Tate family. Your loss is so many people's loss. Ivan was a leader, a mentor and a friend to so many. His caring, his kindness and generosity will always be remembered. The Colorado Chapter of the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice will deeply miss him.
