GUENTHNER, S hirley Lee Shirley Guenthner, a beloved member of our community, died at her home in Boulder, CO on November 15, 2010, at the age of 75. An elder among us, Shirley was a founding force for the women's choral community in Colorado. She helped launch the Denver Women's Chorus, has supported Boulder's Sound Circle as fan and friend since its inception, and in recent years she sang with Resonance, Women's Chorus of Boulder. The women's music community was a primary facet of Shirley's relationships, and a nurturing ground in her life's journey. Shirley graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1957 with her B.S.N. She felt privileged to work as a labor and delivery nurse both in Boston and Denver. She was also a Professor of Nursing at Boston University and Boston College. She implemented and oversaw the Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Program at Kaiser Permanente Colorado. Shirley is survived by Carol Peterson, her beloved partner of 30 years, her brothers Jerome (Tricia) of Lewes, DE and Jerry (Gloria) of Lorton, VA, many nieces and nephews and their children, and a loving circle of friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Ruben and Genieve, and her brother Gene and sister-in-law Rebecca. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 20 starting promptly at 11:30am, at Columbine Unity Church, 8900 Arapahoe Road, Boulder, reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, please send tax-deductible donations to BCAA, 2590 Walnut Street, Suite #9, Boulder, CO 80302; note "Sound Circle" or "Resonance" in memo.
