Mother (not mom),
I read a note of yours a week ago. You expressed how proud you were of who I´d become and the mother and wife I had become.
It was very nice of you to write that note.

Joe and family,
I just learned that Frances had passed away and want to share my condolences. Frances was a member of the Arc of Denver Board of Directors when I worked there in the late 70's. Both you and Frances contributed a great deal to the lives of persons with developmental disabilities. Take care of yourselves.

Faith writings 1/23/13. Of all the good times I had with my Mother she made my life so complete because she used to give me bubble baths. She would clean me up and wash my hair and tuck me in for my afternoon nap. She would sing songs to me. It is my Mother who gave me strength and courage. I began to believe and trust in God. I began to start following God. When I am with Jesus Christ he was my comfort. He was wiping my tears. I was sleeping with my Mother and I was comforting my mother. My mother is a treasure in my life. She blessed my life and made it so content so that I could move on with my own life. I was asking Jesus Christ to come into my life. He is my peace and my comfort. I can't go on Lord Jesus, I need you now. I've decided to move to move on with my life and come to have the peace of God's presence, a faithful God. I can feel her watching over me, she is everything. thank you Lord Jesus!

Cont'd "In 1962 we went to Germany for 4 yrs and Faith was born there. We were able to visit almost all of the European countries, the British Isles, Ireland & Scandinavia. We returned to Denver & St. James in 1966, and have been parishioners for a total of 50 years. Frances was active on parish committees and was a lifetime member of Altar & Rosary. She was also active in the community in ARC, Down Syndrome Assn. Montclair Womens Club & Officers Wives Club. She took Art & sewing classes and made many of her dresses. She was a very thrifty & resourceful wife. She never missed the Denver Dry & May D&F clearance sales and stocked up on household & clothing items that lasted us many years. Her final years were taken up with doctor appts. Hospital stays, rehab stays, and nurses visit. She endured them gracefully & cheerfully. She passed away at home peacefully with her family."

This is the eulogy given by Joe Verhulst at Frances memorial services. "Our family thanks you for coming to clebrate Frances entrance into a heavenly life. We were married in 1942 when I was a private in the Army Air Corps. We had 6 daughters no two born in the same place,3 were born overseas. Frances spent a lot of her life putting up hair and dressing the girls. She cared for our youngest daughter at home for 35 years. Becuase of my military transfers Frances and the girls had to live in many temporary Spartan living accommodations but they never complained. We came to Denver in 1957 and loved in St. James Parish. 2 girls went to St. James School and Frances was active in the PTA."Continued on next post...

Mother and Dad had a true love affair that lasted over 70 years. We grew up knowing that they were genuinely crazy about each other and were lovingly demonstrative at all times. It was an excellent example for all of us. Dad was so incredibly sweet and patient with Mother through out her long, long deterioration,.I was there at the very end, and even in her last moments, Dad was asking her:"Are you in any pain , Sweetheart ? Can I do anything for you. ? " He has set an extraordinary example of what marriage vows REALLY mean. ... In sickness and in health, till death do us part.... I have never been prouder of my Father.

Mother really was a very lucky and wise woman, when she picked our Dad to be her life's companion and the father of her children

We always appreciated Frances' sense of humor and her great skill at knowing everyone in church. She was a great lady.
