Don and I met at Kirkland and Ellis in Chicago where we were both new associates.
He was a great lawyer then and a great colleague.
Please accept my condolences on your loss.

I went all through grade school and high school with Don, graduating with him in 1966. He was an outstanding student academically and was involved in many clubs and organizations. It follows that he had such success in life and was so highly regarded. We will miss our friend and classmate next year at our 50th reunion. My deepest sympathy to Don and Diane's family.

Don introduced himself to us in our ranch kitchen shorty after he purchased his neiboring place. He was remarkably friendly and sincere, and he had great hope for his ranch becoming a cherished place for his family. Shorty after he acquired the main ranch, he added on a neighboring place which was in danger of subdivison, thus helping to preserve the integrity of this valley we all love s,o dearly. All of his holdings are in conversation easements with the Montana Land Reliance. Don was too briefly a good neighbor and a exemplary steward of the land.

Donnie was the sweetest and cutest of all the boy cousins. My most fun memory was when he named all the kittens after the 1959

I had the privilege of working with Don in the defense of Bayer in the PPA litigation. He was a talented attorney who was always focused on the task at hand. We became friends and remained in touch over the years. We are deeply saddened by his sudden loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Many of us are still in shock with the untimely passing of Don. Don was one of the friendliest classmates in our Class of '66. He always had a nice word for everyone. We have a class potluck group that meets monthly. Even though Don was unable to attend, he always had a thought to pass on to fellow classmates when he received the email. In our post to classmates-many have responded to this date so I will share their names here: JoAnn Potenziani, Bob Ham, Kathy Massa, Ron Wieman, Andrea Clarkson, Sue Leonard, Cathy Dodson, Terry Brown, cousin Sandi Collins,Ray Powers,Sharon Stafford, Sally Koch-all saddened with the news. I am sure we will hear from others. Heartfelt prayers to Don and Diane's families.

So sorry to hear about Don. Don and I had several things in common. I was born and raised in Montana, but have been living in Plainfield, Il. since 1984 (both of my sons were born in Plainfield and went to school grades 1-12 in Plainfield. Don was born and raised in Plainfield, IL and bought a beautiful Ranch on the West Rosebud River in Montana bordering our family Ranch (TNT Ranch) outside Fishtail, Montana. I only had the pleasure of meeting Don once. He was opening a barbwire gate in Montana - bordering Don's place (the Fiddler Creek Ranch) and the Beartooth Mountains, he was with his sons, getting ready to saddle up and go riding. I love the beautiful Rustic Lodge and Barn he built on the banks of the West Rosebud! I'll be driving past there on Wednesday and will say goodbye for now, only wish we had more time to share.

Don was an exceptional lawyer and mentor, and the penultimate friend. And fun and inspiring -- how many others stay up until ten telling stories and strategizing then meet you at the gym at 430 am every day of trial? I owe him so very much, and people still talk about his great remarks at my investiture. He will be missed greatly by Michael and me. Ellen, David, Teddy, I am so very sorry. Meg Ryan

Don's magnetic presence will be missed. He was a man of integrity who pursued his passions with the same vigor and commitment he put into his work and above all, the people in his life. I know his spirit will live on in each of us and with that light, may we each honor Don by living fully, by making each moment count and seeking the excellence that lives within each of us. How blessed I am to have called him friend. Much love from Dana, Joy and Bernie Busch
