It took me quite a while to track down the right Julia who had been so kind to me 30 years ago when I was a small child. I´m certain Julia (Julie) Scheck lived two doors up the street from us (on Green Court) when I was a child. She was an amazingly sweet and kind woman who would babysit us, and was good friends with my mother, Chele.

My foremost memory of her is when I was five years old and went up the street to pick some flowers from the flowerbed Ms. Julie had in the corner of her front yard. After picking them, I went home and gave the flowers to my mom who quizzically asked me where I got them from. I proudly proclaimed, "I got them from Ms. Julie´s yard!" My mom was furious. She marched me right up to Ms. Julie´s house to apologize for destroying the flowers that Ms. Julie futzed over every day. At five years old I didn´t realize that I had stolen them, but on the way over mom had explained to me that I had committed a crime, and I had made Ms. Julie sad. I was sobbing my eyes out on her front porch, so sad that I had stolen Ms. Julie´s flowers. I was convulsing through tears, telling her that I was so sorry for ruining her flowers. She said, "Dusty, flowers are meant to be enjoyed. You gave their enjoyment to your mother. That´s what they´re meant to do!" At five years old, I didn´t really understand what she meant, only that she wasn´t mad with me anymore. Only as an adult have I come to remember this story as the act of kindness and pity on a child that it was.

May Ms. Julie Rest In Peace, and my condolences to her family.

Aunt Julia always made us laugh. Her sense of humor was divine. At Mom's funeral (her sister Helen) in 1999 Julia sat me down and told me she had purchased a blue casket and was going to be in a mausoleum - 'no dirt for me', she said.

My love to my cousins.
