Thell Stewart Obituary

Thell James Stewart
Manti, UT
Thell James Stewart joined his eternal companion on October 9, 2013. He was born January 10, 1936 to Clifford and Alta Stewart. Thell grew up in the small farming town of Meadow, Utah. Life there centered on thrift and hard work. He graduated from Millard High School and later Brigham Young University with a degree in accounting. He was an ROTC cadet and served in the air force in England and Arizona before beginning a career as a CPA. Thell met Kathleen Peck at BYU and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1959. He had a successful business career, working initially for Elmer Fox & Co. in Salt Lake City, where he became a partner. He later founded his own corporation and was recognized as one of the top accountants and financial advisors in the state. On retirement, he returned to his small-town roots, farming and ranching in Manti, Utah.
Thell's life is best characterized by the high expectations he held for himself and his posterity. He often said his greatest contribution to the world was his children's achievements. His parents taught him the value of a job well done and he passed that on to his family.
Thell loved the outdoors and shared that love with his family. We will always remember camping trips that included hiking, fishing, and singing around the campfire. Thell enjoyed hunting with his brother and friends, which provided meat for the freezer and trophies for the wall. He enjoyed breeding, training, and riding horses and had a special fondness for Paso Finos. His interests were wide-ranging, including opera, football, and classical literature.
Thell was an active member of the LDS church, serving in many capacities, including bishopric member and high councilman. His greatest love, however, was serving the youth in the Scouting program. He received a Silver Knot for his efforts. The final year and nine months of his life he served faithfully in the Manti Temple. Thell also served in the community. At the time of his death, Thell was chairman of the Sanpete County Planning and Zoning Commission and President of the Manti Irrigation Company.
Survived by his four children: Vicki (Dallas) Collet, Cynthia (Robert) Pearson, Mark (Debbie Brown) Stewart, and Julie Stewart (Matt) Pacenza; 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, three sisters: Hope Peterson, Joan Stott, and Beth Tucker; and one brother, Thad Stewart. He is preceded in death by his wife Kathleen Peck, his parents, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. in the Manti LDS Stake Center, 555 East Union, Manti. Friends may call at the stake center on Monday evening from 6 to 8:00 p.m. and again at the stake center on Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Meadow cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti. Several years ago I worked with Thell in the Scouting program in Summit County. He was "one of the very best." He was over the Exploring program as we started a new district in our area. He was fun, always had a smile and was one who we could count on.

May the Lord bless you in your loss,

Dick Jorgenson

Always wondered what Thell was doing with his life after we both graduated from BYU. We had several classes together and I enjoyed his keen insight and quite, quirky humor. May his memory bring peace and joy to the family and I know he continues to pray for your spiritual success. An old buddy, Dave White
