Arthur Backus Obituary

Arthur Sherman Backus 1957 ~ 2006 OGDEN - Arthur Sherman Backus, 48, died Friday, February 3, 2006. He was born August 24, 1957, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to Norma Curtis and Arthur Walter Backus. In 1976 he married Nancy Nelson and they were blessed with two children, Gregory and Jennifer. They were later divorced. He served in the U.S. Navy, and later achieved the rank of Captain in the Utah Army National Guard. He attended Layton High School and later graduated from Weber State University with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Sherman (as he was called by his family) is survived by his children, Gregory of Syracuse, Utah, and Jennifer of Ogden; two grandchildren Jeffery and Kaya; two sisters Diane (Jim) Miranti of Missouri, and Patricia (Percy) Vollmer of Louisiana; two brothers Jeffery (Roxann) Backus of Louisiana, and Tony Backus of Salt Lake City, and his father Arthur (Judy) Walter Backus, of St. George, Utah. He is preceded in death by his mother Norma Noel. A visitation with the family is planned for Wednesday, February 8, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden. On Thursday, February 9, 2006 a private family funeral service will be held at Camp Williams with military honors. Interment will be at Camp Williams.
