JoAnne Ford Obituary

JoAnne Chidester Ford
1930 ~ 2015
JoAnne Chidester Ford, 84, was called home on February 2, 2015 and took a piece of our hearts with her. We tried our best to keep her here, but her weak lungs gave out.
She was born March 7, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Gordon and Leah Ence Chidester. JoAnne was a generous and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was raised in Salt Lake City and graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in music. She married Lyle S Ford on August 28, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. JoAnne and Lyle loved to travel the world with their friends, Cal and Diane Workman. JoAnne was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many church callings. She especially loved the Primary where she served as a Stake Primary President and played the piano for singing time into her eighties. We mourn our loss, but celebrate with peace and joy that she was able to leave behind her pain and struggles and be reunited with her beloved husband, Lyle, and her parents.
JoAnne is preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, and her parents. She is survived by her two daughters, Lori Ririe (Kent) and Tracy Barnett (Chris); grandchildren: Shauna Phillips (Roger), Diana Hobbs (Jason), Sam Barnett, and Jared Ririe (Cailey); great grandchildren: Corbyn Phillips, Blake Hobbs, Peyton Phillips and Skyler Hobbs; sister Dorothy Egan.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Fortuna LDS Ward located at 4407 Fortuna Way followed by Funeral Services at 2:00 pm. A viewing will also be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary 3401 Highland Drive on Friday, February 6, 2015 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.
The family would like to thank Home Comfort Care especially Jenny, Cindee, Kathy and Grace for the friendship, support and love they gave JoAnne.

To the Ford Family

I first met Joanne when I was a young mother with four children. I quickly learned to admire her.
Her sincere and warm friendship has meant a great deal to me over these many years. She had a great knowledge of the gospel and she has been an example of courage and dignity for me.
I will miss her.

We love this picture of your beautiful mother and grandmother! This is how we will always remember her..smiling, beautiful, vibrant and so very sweet and thoughtful. Steve and I enjoyed every opportunity to visit with our dear friend, Joanne, and will cherish the precious time spent with her...we were always uplifted by our visits. We send our love to you, her dear family, and pray you will feel comfort and peace now and in the days to come. What a wonderful legacy of faith and love sweet Joanne has left to all who knew her.
With love--Steve and Michele Rossiter

There was no more generous friend, nor more kind and compassionate lover-of-children than JoAnne Ford. To us she has been "Grandma Jo" for 22+ years. She remembered every holiday and birthday! We are so grateful she has been called home to her sweet Lyle, and to her dear parents whom she missed so much. We will miss her, but feel blessed to know this angel.

Dear lori and tracy I love your mom she is a great lady. I was just thinking about when we went to disneyland and she sat behind me in the war canoe as we paddled around tom soyer island. At some point we tried to go fast and i shoveled a full paddle of water into her lap. i felt really bad but she laughed. every now and then i would ask her if she wanted to go canoeing. She always said no with a smile. love you!

I'm very sorry for the loss of your Mom! She was a jewel! I had the privilege of working with her in primary!! It broke my heart as she watched Lyle suffer and she knew he wasn't long for this life!! They were so in love! As Lyle passed away she was very concerned that she was not going to be able to continue playing the piano in primary! I assured her that as long as I was in primary and we had a piano she could stay! I loved her hugs & her wisdom! You had a incredible Mother & I feel blessed to call her Friend! Love Ronda Beveridge

I have known your Mom for many years. The thing I have always been impressed about her is her constant cheerfulness. I have missed giving her a hug the last few years. She really gave the best hugs. Best to you and your family. What a terrific lady!
